Bruges Leisure

Bruges is not really the city to come to if you are looking for an activity-based holiday on account of a deficit of obvious sporting facilities. Aside from a football team, the city is not famous for any particular spectator sports and a lack of outdoor water venues or relevant weather influences makes participant sports limited to the basics.

Spectator sports

Club Bruges is the citys official football team and it plays its games at the Jan Breydelstadion, a venue with a capacity for close to 30,000 spectators. The team is high profile in Belgium, being the only club to have played in the UEFA Champions League final and its games attract plenty of local support. Visitors are more than welcome to attend games. For details on how to get tickets, call the Bruges Tourist Board on: +32 504 446 46.

Participant sports

Bruges is not especially famous for any participant sports and offers no special conditions conducive to specific activities. Parks in the city offer open areas in which outdoor sports such as football can be played by all, while several municipal sports centres offer swimming pools and indoor sports courts. Visitors staying in large, respectable hotels may well find that there are gymnasiums on hand that are free to all paying guests.
