Antwerp Health And Safety
While not as prevalent as in cities and resorts along the Mediterranean, pick pockets and bag snatchers prowl crowded Antwerp tourist locations on the lookout for unwary travellers, so it pays not to leave your common sense at home when visiting the city.
Health
Antwerp is a large, modern European city and thereby has no special risks with respect to public health. There are the usual slim chances of contracting hepatitis A from contaminated food, but these are very low. Drinking bottled water and eating at popular establishments should pre-empt any stomach disorders. The biggest health concern is catching a cold, as Antwerp’s weather is very changeable and can get quite cool suddenly even in the summer months, so it is recommended that you take some items of warm clothing no matter what time of year you visit.

Safety
As always when travelling in a strange city, keep a close watch on your possessions and take only what you can afford to lose if attending an event attended by many people. Many of the better hotels have secure room safes, where you can leave your passport, tickets and credit cards. Violent crime is very rare in Antwerp, with most city areas safe to walk around even late at night, with the exception being the Centraal Station district, where caution is advised.
