Getting To Salzburg
Located near the border with Germany, Salzburg is accessible by air, road and rail. Most visitors fly into Salzburg Airport, but it is also possible to transfer from Munich, only 2 hours away by air.
Salzburg has an efficient local bus system and bus routes are shown on city and hotel maps. There is a good network of cycle paths in and around the city and the bike rental office at Salzburg's main train station is open from 07:00 to 24:00 daily, from April to September.
By car
If you're driving, you'll probably arrive on the Autobahn A8, coming west from Germany, which can be clogged by traffic jams on weekends, in late summer, at Easter and during the ski season. However, Salzburg can be reached by car from all directions, including the A1 from the east, connecting the city to Vienna, and the A10 from the south. Route 20 comes into Salzburg from points north and west, and route 159 serves towns and cities from the southeast.
Public parking lots, designated with a large P sign, are conveniently located throughout the city. If you're driving into Salzburg, leave your car on the left bank of the Salzach River. You'll find convenient underground parking lots like the one at Mnchsberg, from where it is an easy walk to the centre and Domplatz.
