Getting Around In Innsbruck
Public transportation in Innsbruck is efficient and easy to use. Many of the city’s attractions can be seen on foot once you reach a certain area such as the Old Town or the Schlossberg. However, to get between areas, you will need some kind of transportation. Parking isn’t too bad in Innsbruck, as there are plenty of underground parking lots located near the city centre, while those who choose to park in the street should be aware of the many rules for when and where you can park your car along the street.
The buses and public streetcars use the same ticketing system and cover all of Innsbruck and the immediate surroundings. Taxis can be hailed on the street or for something different, try a horse-drawn carriage ride.
By train
The train station in Innsbruck only handles trains coming in and out of the city. There is no rail service within the town itself.

By bus and streetcar
A network of three streetcar and 25 bus lines comprehensively covers all of Innsbruck and the immediate environs. Both forms of transport use the same ticketing system, making it very convenient to get about. You can transfer to another line with the same ticket if you are moving in the same general direction on a single journey.
On the left bank of the Inn River, the main bus and streetcar routes are Museumstrasse and Mariahilfstrasse. On the right bank, the buses and streetcars don’t go into the pedestrian zone, they only go to their main stop in Marktgraben. Tickets can be purchased at tobacco shops and from automated ticket machines. A day pass, or tageskarte, is also available and is excellent value for money. Taxis
Taxis in Innsbruck are a convenient way to get between places, but are often not much faster than simply walking. Taxis can be hailed on the street or found at any of the city’s clearly-marked taxi stands. You can also call for a taxi by calling: +43 0512 5311.
Tourist services
Horse-drawn carriages (fiakers), which are still a feature of Innsbruck life, can be hired in front of the Landestheatre. The ride is usually 30 minutes long and offers a great way to see some of the city. Set the price with your driver before taking off.
The all-inclusive Innsbruck Card gives you free admission to all of the city’s museums, mountain cable cars, the Alpenzoo and free transport on the buses and streetcars. The card also gets you onboard the red Sightseer tourist bus, which takes passengers on a tour of the major sights with a commentary in English. Cards are good for one to three days and are great value for money. Innsbruck cards can be bought at the Tourist Office, on cable cars and at most museums.
From the airport
There isn’t much choice for transportation between the airport and the city centre. Public bus ‘F’ departs every 15 minutes to the central train/bus station from outside the Arrivals Hall. You can buy your bus ticket from the driver.
Taxis are also available outside the Arrivals Hall and offer the most convenient way to get into Innsbruck. The journey into town takes about 10 minutes and is reasonably priced.
