Be Safe in Montego Bay

To enjoy a holiday, visitors should be sure of the health regulations and safety risks that they may encounter. Montego Bay is a fairly safe place to visit, but as in any other big city, there are certain things that visitors should be aware of.

Safety

Being in an unfamiliar country can be a little daunting at first, but with some sensible precautions, visitors to Montego Bay can have a great time. Pick-pocketing and bag-snatching are two of the more common petty crimes in the city. Be careful when walking or shopping in crowded areas, especially at the markets or the beaches. Also, if shopping at the market, dont try things on unless you intend to buy them.

Health

There are no obvious health risks to travellers in Montego Bay, but visitors should not underestimate the hot summer sun. If you are suffering from sunburn, it is unlikely that you will be able to enjoy your holiday to the maximum. Also, ensure you drink only bottled or canned drinks and only eat small amounts of the spicy Jamaican food until your stomach adjusts to the spiciness.

Travel insurance

It is always wise to travel with a comprehensive travel insurance policy, as this will protect against untoward incidents such delayed flights, lost luggage or loss of personal items, while also providing coverage for medical expenses.
