Montego Bay Entertainment

There are several choices for entertainment and leisure pursuits at Montego Bay, which is a city that promises plenty of leisure opportunities for holidaymakers. Just a few of the choices include fine dining, listening to music, taking an early evening stroll or partying and dancing the night away.

Eating out

Many of the more popular restaurants are located on Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay, where there are delightful places to dine at while enjoying the splendid views. All types of cuisine are available at Montego Bay including European, American, Chinese, Indian and many more. Of course, Jamaican cuisine is always readily available.

The Pelican is a lovely restaurant with wonderful views of the ocean. The Georgian house, once the home of a rich mans mistress, has been converted into a romantic dining area with candlelit tables and a quiet ambience. The Ambrosia, Richmond Hill Inn and the Day O Plantation Restaurant all offer exquisite dining experiences.

Local cuisine

Jamaican cuisine is flavoured with lots of herbs and spices including ginger, garlic, allspice, onions and hot peppers. No Jamaican meal is complete without adding some hot sauce to it, and the sauces here can often be eye-wateringly hot! Jerk chicken, goat curry and spice-stuffed roast beef are traditional main dishes. For dessert, Jamaicans love ice cream, which is made from coconut milk. Mango, soursop, rum and raisin are the local's favourite flavours.

Theatre and music

Montego Bay, the home of reggae superstar and Jamaican legend Bob Marley, provides a insight to this great musicians life. At the Half Moon Shopping Village, there is a small theatre that offers an account of his life and work. The free shows are held hourly. In addition, you will find plenty of live music in local bars and restaurants across the bay.

Shopping

Montego Bay is a shoppers dream come true, not only because of the lovely things for sale in the quaint shops and malls, but also because many of the shops are duty- free. Many of the duty-free shops are located at Montego Freeport, the city centre and at the Holiday Village Shopping Centre.

The Old Fort Craft Park should not be missed, if you are looking for handicrafts and souvenirs. The Crafts Market, near Harbour Street, has a good selection of Jamaican souvenirs including musical instruments, straw baskets, carved objects and many other items. Slightly more upscale shopping and boutiques are available at Half Moon Plaza, about 15kms from the city.
