Sydney Weather

Sydney has a mild, Mediterranean climate, with plenty of sunshine and cool ocean breezes to cool things down in summer. Sydney is in the southern hemisphere and this means that the seasons are opposite to those in Europe, with the peak of summer falling over Christmas and New Year.

Summer

The summer season (November to March) is the most popular time to visit Sydney, with temperatures regularly hitting the mid-30s. November and March are preferred by visitors looking for sunshine without the sweltering heat. The westerly wind in summer is hot, dry and dusty, as is the northwestern breeze.

Winter

Winter days can be warm, regularly in the 20s, but they can also be damp and chilly. Winter nights are likely to be cold. In winter, the southerly wind can sometimes turn into a gale that brings in bad weather, with the southeastern wind often bringing rain. Snow falls regularly in the Blue Mountains, 500kms south of Sydney. The ski season here is between June and October.
