Sydney Leisure

Sydney-siders, like most Australians, love the outdoors, and many locals regularly exercise at Sydney's many gyms, fitness centres or by jogging, walking or playing sports. With excellent sports facilities, Sydney also hosts many popular spectator sports such as soccer, Australian Rules Football, rugby and tennis.

Australian Rules Football

Australian Rules Football is a very popular and exciting spectator sport and is operated by the Australian Football League (AFL). The Sydney Swans are the main team in Sydney and they play matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground, together with North Melbourne's Kangaroos Australian Rules Football team.

Rugby

Sydney is one of the main centres for playing rugby league and many rugby league games are played all over the city at different venues. The main Rugby League competition in the Sydney area is the Telstra Premiership, run by the National Rugby League (NRL), with games at the huge Superdome at the Sydney Olympic Park and at Aussie Stadium, in Moore Park.

Boating

Yachting is a popular activity for both locals and visitors to Sydney and at the weekend, scores of yachts sail around Sydney's scenic harbour.  Many of these yachts are very big and impressive. The yachting season in Sydney is between September and March.
