Sydney Restaurants
Sydney offers a vast and varied selection of restaurants and eateries located throughout the city. Cooking up food from all around the world, Sydney's restaurants offer very good value for money and have excellent facilities. Many of Sydney's eateries also provide outside seating areas with beautiful views of Sydney and the amazing oceanfront.
Local cuisine
Sydney-siders are not dining on bush tucker, such as kangaroo. The local cuisine is considered some of the best in the world. Rich in fresh seafood and produce, Sydney chefs present world-class dining with a diverse, creative mix of Asian, British and Australian influences. Seafood features prominently, as do fresh dairy products and wine from the nearby vineyards. Outside many of Sydney's restaurants, you will see the letters 'B.Y.O.' or 'B.Y.O. only', which means that the restaurant allows guests to ‘bring their own’ alcoholic beverages. Restaurants in the Sydney and New South Wales area are required to have a licence to sell alcohol, but can serve it without a licence if you bring it with you when you dine.
Where to eat
The bulk of Sydney's restaurants are located in and around central Sydney. Popular areas for dining in Sydney include Darling Harbour, home to a large food court and several trendy restaurants; The Rocks, with its many friendly pubs and cafés; Oxford street, with a large concentration of popular and highly regarded Sydney restaurants; Sydney's Kings Cross district, full of various fast-food outlets; Darlinghurst, with lots of cafés and restaurants lining Victoria and Stanley streets; and Sydney's Newtown area, full of fashionable, lively restaurants and bars.
