Perth Weather

Perth is blessed with a wonderful Mediterranean climate, which brings an abundance of sunshine and warm temperatures nearly all year round. There really is no bad time to visit Western Australia, although summer can be quite hot and winter a bit on the rainy side. The one thing you can count on in Perth is the sun. On average, the city enjoys over 300 days of sunshine each year, which greatly enhances all the outdoor activities on offer here.

Opposite seasons

In Perth, summer spans from December through February, a strange concept to visitors from the northern hemisphere. The average temperature during these months is a comfortable 25, although with such intense sun, the mercury often tops 40 during the daytime. Winter, which happens from May through August, is the rainiest time of year. However, despite the rain, temperatures during winter are mild and the downpours keep the countryside around Perth lush and green.

Improving on perfection

The absolute best weather in Perth happens during the spring and autumn. The autumn months of March, April and May see delightful weather, with comfortable clear days and mild nights. This is also the season for whale-watching along the coast. Spring, between September and November, is just as pleasant. There is a small chance of rain during this season, but showers are occasional and the sun quickly reappears. Spring is wildflower season around Perth, making it one of the best times of the year to get out into the national parks.
