What to see

Perth is a city connected to nature in all of its forms. The ocean, rivers, bushland and desert are never far away and thus make up a big part of any visit to this city. Culturally, Perth is an important repository of Aboriginal art and early British settlement history. There are some nice galleries and museums here, made all the better by the endless number of excellent places to eat and drink.

After dark, Perth stays active with a lively nightlife full of bars, pubs and clubs. Due to its wonderful dry and warm weather, almost every place in town has outdoor seating, making the alfresco experience a vital part of Perth. Locals here seem to take a relaxed and friendly approach to life, making visitors feel instantly welcome and giving Perth its distinctively fun atmosphere.

Daytrips

Within an easy days drive of the city are some truly wonderful sites worth exploring for an afternoon. Nearly all of them involve nature, along with a few quaint towns in the wine-making regions of Margaret River. Western Australias national parks are among the nicest and most impressive in the country. The coastal areas around Perth are also considered some of the finest in Australia.

Activities and leisure

Perth is an outdoor city, with a passionate following for all things related to the ocean. There are 19 beaches right in the metropolitan Perth area, so that beach feeling is never far from your mind. Surfing is also a huge part of most local peoples lives. For diving and snorkelling, you wont have to go far to find colourful reefs and old shipwrecks.

Safety issues

Perth has long had a reputation as a laid-back and friendly city; however, during the busy summer months, the number of tourists greatly increases, offering an opportunity for the citys petty thieves to ply their trade. It is strongly suggested that you buy some travel insurance before your trip to ensure that any mishaps dont ruin your holiday.
