Perth Transport
Perth has an excellent public transport system consisting of buses, trains and ferries. Wherever you need to go in this city, you will find the transport services here easy and comfortable. Perth’s network of bike paths ensures a safe and convenient way to get around the city if you’d rather go at it on your own.
By train
The trains in Perth are quick, safe and clean. They run from 05:30 until midnight every day, usually stopping at each station every 20 minutes or so. All trains depart from the Perth Railway Station and mainly service the suburbs of the city, and are therefore not suitable for cross-city transport.

By bus
Transperth operates all of the buses in the city, conveniently connecting the city centre with the suburban areas. The main terminals are at Perth Central Bus Station and the Wellington Street Bus Station. Buses operate from 06:00 to 23:30 every day, with reduced services at weekends and on holidays. Drivers often won’t stop for you unless you hail them. Transperth tickets are valid for 2 hours and can be used on any train or ferry.
The CAT (Central Area Transit) operates free buses, which circle the city centre every 10 minutes or so from 07:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and from 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays. This is a great way to get around the downtown area and Northbridge. Transperth offers free route maps for the CAT.
Taxis
Taxis cruise Perth looking for fares. They also wait at the taxi stands at Perth Railway Station and Hay Street Mall. Between 06:00 and 18:00 the cab fare is at its cheapest, but between 18:00 and 06:00 and at weekends, the rates nearly double.
From the airport
Perth’s city centre can be easily reached by taking the shuttle bus, which runs frequently between both terminals and the city hotels (tel: +61 8 9277 7958). Transperth public buses also service the airport, but they won’t drop you off directly at your hotel. Many hotels in Perth provide free shuttle service; inquire with your hotel as to whether this service is available.
Taxis are available 24 hours from both terminals. They offer the most convenient and quickest way to get to your hotel from the airport. If you rent a car, the drive to the city centre is well-signed along the Great Eastern Highway. The journey should take around 20 minutes.
