Hobart Transport
Transportation in Hobart is very efficient and easy, and there are many options for getting around the city. The Metro Bus network provides connections within Hobart city as well as to the suburbs. Taxis are readily available and you can ask your hotel about shuttle services. If you are interested in renting a car upon arrival and do not have problems driving on the left side of the road, there are many car rental options at Hobart International Airport.
By bus
Local bus services are operated by Metro Tasmania (tel: +61 3 6233 4219, www.metrotas.com.au), with a network of efficient services from the city centre depot at Franklin Square on Elsabeth street, to the suburbs. Most useful to tourists is the off-peak, multi-trip pass, valid after 09.00 and available from the Metro shop in the GPO building near the central bus depot.

By ferry
Ferries from Brooke Street Pier depart every 90 minutes (between 10.30 and 15.00, and more frequently during peak hours), and travel to Bellerive on the easter shore. It’s also a popular sightseeing option since this is a leisurely and practical way to see Hobart from the water, hoping on and off at various stops in the harbour. Alternatively sightseeing cruise boats depart from the same location.

Tourist services
The red double decker Hobart Explorer Bus takes visitors to all the city’s major attractions. You can hop on and off where you wish and the ticket is valid all day. Tickets are available at the Travel & Information Centre at the corner of Elizabeth and Davey streets.
From the airport
Travellers to Hobart International Airport can access a range of transport options for travelling to and from the airport and for arranging travel within the state. You will find the Airporter Shuttle bus service at the front entrance of Hobart Airport, between the Qantas and Virgin Blue terminals. Simply make your way to the bus once you have collected your luggage and advise the driver of your accommodation destination.
Airporter Shuttle buses service the majority of Hobart's motels, hotels, backpacker lodgings and car rental outlets. Local passengers can be transferred to any bus terminal or taxi stand in Hobart city; there is no need to make a reservation. The airport is serviced by a number of taxi firms, and the taxi rank is conveniently located right outside the domestic terminal building.
