Canberra does not offer the extent and range of hotels and accommodation options that Sydney and Melbourne do, and you will usually end up paying more to stay here than you would in most Australian cities. With that said, Canberra hotels are generally very clean, have excellent facilities and are mostly located within easy reach of the city’s main attractions including museums, galleries, landmarks, shops, bars and restaurants.

Where to stay?

Most hotels are located around the Capital Hill region of south/central Canberra, especially in the Barton and Kingston districts, where many attractions and good public transport options are available. There are also many hotels to the north of the city centre, particularly along Northbourne avenue and in the smaller suburbs of Ainslie, Downer and O'Conner.
