Adelaide Weather

Adelaide's annual climate is described by many as Mediterranean. The city experiences mild winters and hot summers.

Hot summers

The warmest months are from December to February. They are usually very dry with the sun being very hot. Temperatures regularly reach 28°C, which is ideal weather to enjoy the beaches and water sports on offer here. It is vital that you always protect yourself from the sun with a suitable sun cream factor, as the sun’s intensity makes sunburn common. Try to avoid being out in the sun in the heat of the day, as sunstroke and dehydration can take hold quickly. Many people from Europe head to Adelaide to enjoy a bit of sun over winter.

Mild winters

During the winter months of June to August, the temperature drops to about 15°C, with cool nights. You will need to pack some warmer clothes, especially for night-times. Australian winters coincide with European summer times, so the city can get quite busy. Many people prefer to visit Australia in the winter, as it is not so hot and sights and attractions can be enjoyed without getting overheated, although, be warned; Adelaide gets wet in winter. You will not see snow, but you will see plenty of rain.

Spring and autumn
Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) are very good times to travel to Adelaide. The city isn’t too busy with tourists and the weather is extremely pleasant, with manageable rainfall.
