Be Safe in Krabi
Reckless driving is probably the greatest hazard here, so be particularly careful if you are driving along narrow roads or in mountainous terrain.
Safety
Visitors will need to be aware that local drivers do not necessarily use signals before manoeuvring, so expect the unexpected. Most drivers, however, are reasonably courteous to each other. Always wear a crash helmet if hiring a motorcycle, no matter whether or not anybody else is doing so.
Please note that local plugs and sockets are rarely earthed, so be careful when using electrical appliances. Visitors to Krabi should take extra care of belongings when visiting busy tourist hotspots. It is better to leave valuables at home or locked away in a hotel safe.
Health
Healthcare is quite basic, although most tourist areas have an English-speaking doctor nearby. There is a hospital in Krabi Town, but should any serious health problems arise during your visit, we recommend that you head for the international hospital in Phuket.
Sunstroke, dehydration, diarrhoea, ear infections and in some cases, sexually transmitted diseases, are things to watch out for. Remember, a few sensible precautions can go a long way to making sure that your trip to Krabi is a happy one.
Travel insurance
No matter what precautions you take to prevent accident, theft or loss during your stay in Krabi, these unwanted intrusions are sometimes unavoidable, so always make a point of travelling with a comprehensive travel insurance policy.
Although medical services can be of a reasonable standard, it is never worth taking chances with your health, so ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance to cover the cost of any possible requirement for treatment during your stay.
