Manila Travel Insurance

Travel to Manila comes with certain risks to visitors. Pick-pocketing and tourist scams abound, due to ingrained poverty. Terrorists and insurgents have targeted tourists for kidnapping, to demand ransom to finance their activities. This generally applies to the islands and coastal areas in the southern Philippines, putting all boats travelling to and from offshore islands in the Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago as well as dive sites at great risk.

There is a high incidence of piracy and armed robbery against ships in and around Philippine waters, and a risk of kidnappings at sea. Natural disasters are another concern, with Manila often being visited by typhoons between July and November, when flooding and landslides can occur. Dengue fever is a risk throughout the country, with the best prevention being to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Medical care is good in the major cities, although very expensive; however, it is limited in the remoter areas. Comprehensive medical insurance is strongly advised.
