Tokyo Weather

With its mainland lying northwest of Tokyo Bay and other parts stretching out to cover mountains to the west and islands in the south, Tokyo sees subtropical weather year-round. Tokyos climate is temperate, with four distinctive seasons: autumn, winter, spring and summer. The average temperature is 16C.

Hot and rainy summer

Summer falls between June and August, when the weather is usually hot and sticky. At this time of year, you will find locals walking around on the street wearing bright summer clothes. Even though it can be very hot in the summer, you can expect some rain during this season. An umbrella is essential, no matter how clear the sky looks.

It can get very cold during winter and it snows quite regularly. In autumn (September to early November), Tokyo is widely affected by typhoons, which bombard the city with strong winds and torrential rain. The best time to visit Tokyo is in the spring. Spring lasts from April to May. With mild weather and the sun shining throughout the day, tourists can enjoy walking around the city and they can witness the beauty of the blossoming fruit trees.
