Teams compete against one another in traditional long, narrow rowing boats, with ornate decorations, rowing to the beat of a drum. The sport originated over 2,000 years ago and it is estimated that around 50 million Chinese take part.

Parks
The city has many parks that are ideal for walks, kite flying or tai chi. Many local people gather early in the morning and at dusk for group aerobics and tai chi. The massive Zhongshan Park has some themed play areas suitable for children, an amusement park, Fish World and paintball. At the north end of the Bund, beside the river, you can find Huangpu Park, with particularly good views of both sides of the river.
