Be Safe in Tangiers
Travelling in Tangiers is quite safe, but as with other major cities which have become a hub of tourism, there are some people who may try to take advantage of tourists. Violent crime is not the main concern here, but there have been reports of thefts at knifepoint in deserted areas.
Safety
Its a good idea to practice common sense and be on your guard at all times. Avoid poorly-lit streets and do not wander alone at night, especially if you are a woman. Morocco is an Islamic country, so female travellers should be mindful about what they wear. As Tangiers is very close to Spain, there are both African and European hawkers and thieves here.
Health
The main health concern in Tangiers is diarrhoea. If you want to buy food from a street vendor, make sure you look for signs of unhygienic conditions first. Carry a bottle of water with you and dont drink the water provided in public areas. If you get sick, the medical facilities are quite good in the city.
Travel insurance
Even though crimes are uncommon in Tangiers, unexpected incidents such as sickness or the loss of belongings can ruin your holiday. Taking out travel insurance will ensure that all your costs will be covered in the event of misfortune so that you can rest assured that you will enjoy your stay in Tangiers.
