Mombasa Entertainment

Most visitors to Mombasa come for the beach and the region's historical significance. Whether it's water sports or museums that interest visitors to the region, there are plenty of other entertainment venues available as well. Visitors will find no shortage of dining, drinking, dancing and theatre options to suit a broad spectrum of interests.

Eating out

Eating out in Mombasa is a truly international experience. Local cuisine can be sampled at any number of outdoor restaurants as well as at fine dining establishments. Conversely, the whole gamut of international food can be eaten at any number of well-reputed restaurants, with Italian, Indian, Chinese and Korean food all available.

Local cuisine

Some of the most popular local cuisine includes mishkaki barbecue, which consists of either mutton or beef on a skewer. Barbecued chicken, also known as chicken tikka, is another local dish. Fresh seafood is another specialty and is served any number of ways all over the city.

Theatre and music

After a day of relaxing on the beach, the city of Mombasa offers a vista of entertainment options in the evenings and late into the night. Several clubs on the north coast open their doors at night, and additional clubs are often found in the bigger hotels. The nightlife along the beach is also vibrant at any number of coastal stop-offs.

The Little Theatre Club hosts regular plays, with weekly performances available. This same spot also features ballet performances on certain nights of the week.

Shopping

The Old Town hosts a great many merchants and dealers offering local handicrafts and souvenirs. Some of these establishments also sell clothing and goods in African and Arabic styles. Prices with local vendors vary and may be subject to any number of circumstances. A polite bout of bargaining can be useful in obtaining a good deal.
