Surfing

Surfing is one of the most popular activities for tourists, especially in the summer seasons. Usually popular among young adults, surfing is actually a great form of exercise that can be enjoyed by all age groups. It's one of the most challenging water sports, requiring excellent balance, coordination, and quick thinking. If you're traveling to foreign countries, it's also a god way to enjoy the scenery and meet locals. Surfing requires some skill and may carry a few risks, so make sure your travel insurance is in place before hitting the waves.

One of the most common surfing accidents is "wiping out" or falling from the surfboard and getting carried by the wave. The impact with water can cause soreness, bruising, and muscle pain. Impact with the surfboard causes more direct injuries like cuts, bleeding, and sometimes even hemorrhage and organ damage. Another common risk is crashing into other surfers. In collisions, the surfboard fins can cut deeply into the skin and cause serious wounds. Most of these injuries are treatable, but they can be expensive if you do not have travel insurance.

There are good surfing sites in most coastal areas that are open to tourists. Most surfers bring their own gear, but you can also rent boards from the site if you're a beginner or prefer to travel light. Just make sure the site has adequate emergency and first aid services.

Surfing is considered a Grade 1 risk sport, which means it has fairly low risk of accidents. Still, we recommend securing your travel insurance so you won't have to worry about medical costs.
