Travel to Mount Snow with ski insurance from Essential Travel

The mammoth ski resort of Mount Snow is located in southern Vermont, and presents spectacular skiing and snowboarding to keep all ages and ability levels satisfied. The resort’s 145 trails include easy beginner slopes, cruising intermediate runs and some of New England’s sheerest drops for experienced riders.

Mount Snow is a family-friendly resort that features excellent ski tuition programmes for kids and a full range of facilities and services to make your holiday as relaxing as possible. On or off the slopes, Mount Snow provides first class entertainment, and is one of Vermont’s most enticing ski destinations.

The resort encompasses a massive 80-kilometre ski area and 145 slopes extending over five mountain peaks. Sixteen per cent of the runs are suitable for beginners, 62 per cent are for intermediates, 20 per cent are for advanced skiers and boarders, and two per cent are for experts. The longest slope is four kilometres, and a system of 23 lifts provides transport.

Mount Snow’s ski season runs from November to April, with special deals offered just before the festive holidays and at the season’s close. The easiest means of reaching the resort is to fly to Albany and take a shuttle bus to Mount Snow.

Skiing in Mount Snow

The resort is open to visitors of all ages and expertise, and its childcare facilities and great learning programmes for youngsters make it very suitable for family groups.

Skiing is offered on 145 separate slopes, including a longest trail of four kilometres. Mount Snow is an intermediate skier’s dream, with 62 per cent of all runs allocated to this level. Beginners and advanced riders have 16 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively. Only two per cent of the runs are geared for experts; however, some challenging off-piste trails somewhat make up for this disparity.

The slopes at the resort are connected by 23 efficient lifts with an hourly uplift capacity of over 36,000 people. In addition to regular downhill skiing, Mount Snow boasts a super-pipe and four thrilling terrain parks: Un Blanco Gulch, Grommet, El Diablo and Inferno.

Non-skiing alternatives offered at Mount Snow include: tubing, snowmobiling, cross-country and snowshoe touring, sleigh riding and dog-sledding. Additionally, the resort encompasses comprehensive spa and fitness facilities. Après-ski is provided by a wide range of restaurants, theatres and bars. Alternatively, there are plenty of shops and museums to keep you busy off the slopes as well.

Skiing is offered at Mount Snow from November to April, with cheaper rates before the Christmas holidays and at the end of the season. Children under six ski for free. The most convenient method of accessing the resort is by flying to Albany (New York) and transferring by shuttle bus.

Après-ski in Mount Snow

Lodging at Mount Snow is provided by a variety of hotels, motels, condos, lodges and inns, with styles and budget brackets to suit a wide range of preferences and requirements. The ski resort offers a selection of off-slope leisure activities and facilities, including: spas, snowmobiling, and sports/gym at the onsite fitness centre.

Après-ski at Mount Snow is vibrant, with plenty of restaurants and bars to provide evening entertainment. The facilities are impressive, encompassing a good selection of shops, conference services, and a childcare centre.

The state of Vermont is home to many great ski resorts, and if you want a change of scenery, there are plenty of available options nearby. Haystack resort is located just four kilometres from Mount Snow and offers 42 alternative trails for skiers and snowboarders. Alternatively, the university town of Manchester is only a short drive away and offers plenty of sightseeing opportunities for an interesting day excursion.

Transportation in Mount Snow

Mount Snow is located in southern Vermont, a short distance from the town of Manchester and 365kms from New York City. The quickest and easiest way of accessing the resort is by flying to Albany (New York) and taking a shuttle bus to the resort. Other options include self-drive, or a combination of rail and road transportation.

Mount Snow is approximately four hours away from New York by road, and is accessible from the Big Apple by taking I-95 and I-91 north to Brattleboro, route 9 west to Wilmington and route 100 north to Mount Snow. If you are coming from Montréal, take I-89 and I-91 to Brattleboro and follow directions as above.

Amtrak runs one daily train to Brattleboro from New York’s Penn station, departing at 10:30 and arriving at 15:55. From Brattleboro, you can transfer by road to the resort.

Albany County Airport in New York State is the closest major airport to Mount Snow and is served by domestic flights from all over the United States, as well as many international flights. Bus transportation is provided from the airport to Mount Snow, or the ski resort can be reached by hire car.

Vermont Transit and Greyhound buses run from New York to Brattleboro, and Northeast Bus Service runs directly to the ski resort from New York City.
