Here, you’ll also find the majority of Mt Bachelor’s après-ski, with a staggering number of restaurants, plus a few bars, pubs and clubs. Mt Bachelor boasts 71 runs in total and is one of the biggest ski areas in the Pacific Northwest. The resort caters admirably for each skill level, with trails ranging from expert tree-lined terrain to well-groomed runs, open-bowl terrain, and gentler runs closer to the base areas. The longest run is 3.2kms, and snowboarders are most welcome, with two terrain parks and a half-pipe to enjoy. The official ski season at Mt Bachelor runs from mid-November through to the end of May. The nearest airport is located in Redmond and offers a regular service to Portland International Airport. Shuttle services are available to Mt Bachelor from both airports. Skiing in Mount BachelorMt Bachelor is an extensive ski area located in the Pacific Northwest of Oregon. Its wide array of runs and specialised ski programmes make it a favourite among families, while expert skiers will not be disappointed by the steeper extreme runs. The resort is also a snowboarding Mecca, with numerous competitions held annually, and well-equipped terrain parks.Mount Bachelor’s 71 runs are serviced by 13 lifts with an hourly capacity of 22,000 people, ensuring short lift lines. Fifteen per cent of the runs are rated as easy, 25 per cent intermediate, and 60 per cent advanced. The longest run is 3.2kms. Snowboarders can tackle the pipes and jumps of the two terrain parks, and the Nordic centre provides 56kms of groomed cross-country trails. For a break from skiing, you can try your hand at dog-sledding, sleigh riding, tubing, snowshoeing, telemarking and ice-skating. The resort is home to a couple of restaurants and a lounge, but for those after something more, Bend offers numerous restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs. The official ski season runs from mid-November through to the end of May. Portland International Airport is the nearest major airport, with car hire and shuttle buses to the slopes. Alternatively, you can get a connecting flight to Redmond Airport, which is much closer to Mt Bachelor. Après-ski in Mount BachelorThe nearest accommodation to Mt Bachelor is in the nearby town of Bend, where you can find a wide range of reasonably priced lodging. Bend also boasts countless restaurants, as well as a good selection of bars and clubs. Childcare is available for babies as young as six weeks, and the professional ski school is reputedly excellent.Bend offers interesting galleries, museums and cinemas. Alternatively, a great daytrip from the slopes is the spectacular drive through the Cascades to the town of Eugene in the Willamette Valley. Here, you can enjoy excellent shopping and browse the galleries and museums. Transportation in Mount BachelorMount Bachelor ski resort is 300kms southeast of Portland in the beautiful Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Redmond Airport offers the most convenient means of getting here, with shuttle connections to the slopes, and regular flights to Portland, the nearest major hub.It’s a scenic drive along the Cascade Lakes Highway to Mt Bachelor, 40kms west of Bend. If driving from Portland, take I-5 south to Salem and take exit 253 on to highway 22/20. At Sisters, head south along Three Creeks road to Mt Bachelor. The total distance is around 300kms and takes approximately four hours. Amtrak offers the Los Angeles to Seattle Coast Starlight service, which makes for a beautiful trip up the coast into Washington state. You’ll need to get off at Chemult, from where taxis are available for the final 105-kilometre journey to Bend. From Bend, it’s a pleasant 40-kilometre road trip to the resort and shuttles are available. Redmond Airport is situated to the north of Mt Bachelor and has several carriers offering regular flights from airports along the west coast, including those from Seattle, Portland and San Francisco. There is a direct shuttle service to the slopes from here, as well as from Portland International Airport.
