Travel to Copper Mountain with ski insurance from Essential Travel

Located 121kms west of Denver and 32kms east of Vail, Copper Mountain resort, spanning 960 hectares and offering slopes for all ages and abilities, is Summit County’s largest ski area.

Copper Mountain Village is an idyllic base resort with a unique design that provides spectacular views along with optimal Colorado sunshine. The pedestrianised ski village, located at almost 3,000m, offers a comprehensive range of amenities, including multiple lodging options, sublime dining opportunities, rocking après-ski venues, enticing shops and even a chocolate factory!

The 125 ski slopes at Copper Mountain resort are a diverse assortment of easy nursery runs, intermediate cruisers and steeper, more challenging terrain - spread over a massive, but easy to navigate area. Beginner and intermediate terrain, which covers 21 per cent and 25 per cent of the mountain respectively, is located on the west to central area of the mountain; while the east side offers more testing advanced (36 per cent) and expert (18 per cent) terrain.

Snowboarders have access to Copper Mountain’s exciting terrain park, featuring a wide range of table tops, spines, rollers, kickers and two half-pipes; while cross-country enthusiasts have free run of almost 26kms of groomed routes.

Copper Mountain offers visitors a plethora of lodging options, all situated just steps away from the mountain. Additionally, the ski resort’s compelling nightlife is one of its major attractions; check out Jack’s and JJ’s for the best music, or enjoy a delectable dinner at one of the many excellent eateries.

Skiing in Copper Mountain

Copper Mountain may not be as glamorous as some Colorado resorts, but if you are serious about skiing, this is the place for you. The massive ski area and naturally divided trails provide skiing for the whole family; terrain varies from gentle, sloping runs to steep drops and wide-open bowls. When you are finished on the slopes, Copper Mountain Village, with its fine selection of restaurants and vibrant entertainment spots to provide the perfect end to your day’s skiing, awaits you.

Skiing in Copper Mountain is very clearly demarcated, with 125 trails increasing in difficulty from west to east. The slopes span the entire range of ability levels, with beginner runs making up 21 per cent of the mountain, intermediate 25 per cent, advanced 36 per cent and expert 18 per cent.

The slopes are connected by means of 23 lifts with the ability to transport a whopping 32,088 skiers per hour. Snowboarders have access to a modern terrain park and Copper Mountain encompasses almost 26kms of cross-country ski trails.

Après-ski in Copper Mountain

Copper Mountain offers a full range of winter alternatives to skiing, including a comprehensive athletic centre, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, ice-skating, tubing and snowshoeing. Nights provide non-stop action for those who want it, with incredible restaurants and a wide choice of after-hours entertainment.

Over 850 accommodation units, including hotel rooms, private homes and condos, are located just minutes from the mountain, and the resort’s full range of facilities include childcare, conference/meeting rooms and a variety of shops.

Off the slopes, the Copper Mountain Athletic Club features a swimming pool, weight room, cardio equipment, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms; while other alternatives to the ski slopes include sleigh rides, snowmobiling, ice-skating, tubing and snowshoeing.

In addition to Copper Mountain, Summit County features three more high quality ski resorts, all within a 20-minute drive of each other and linked by means of a free local transit system. So if you are after a bit of variety, check out the untracked steeps of Arapahoe Basin, the night skiing at Keystone or Breckenridge’s four unique mountains.

Transportation to Copper Mountain

Copper Mountain is located in the Rocky Mountains of Summit County, Colorado, 121kms west of Denver and 32 kilometres east of Vail. The ski resort can be reached by road transportation, or by flying into either Denver International or Eagle County airports.

If you opt for driving to the resort, the route follows I-70 until exit 195, off which Copper Mountain is located.

If you choose air transportation as your means of reaching Copper Mountain, you have the choice of flying into either Vail/Eagle County Airport, or Denver International Airport. Eagle County Airport receives American, Delta, Northwest, Continental and United Airlines flights from 13 major cities across the United States, and is located approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes from the resort. Denver International Airport receives over 100 non-stop flights daily, and is located roughly two hours from Copper Mountain.

Colorado Mountain Express shuttle services provide transportation to Copper Mountain from both Denver International and Eagle County airports, and additionally, CME Premier provides transfers from Denver International in private sedans, SUVs and executive vans.
