Incorporated into Toggenburg is a wide range of alternative facilities and winter activity options for visitors to enjoy. Toggenburg’s ski slopes are limited to 55kms of downhill runs, with 25 per cent for beginners, 50 per cent for intermediates and 25 per cent for advanced skiers. Additionally, there are far more kilometres of enticing off-piste options. The longest piste in the resort stretches over seven kilometres, and a system of 19 lifts connects the slopes. Snowboarders have access to two excellent terrain parks. Toggenburg is famous for its excellent range of off-slope activities and amenities, and guests have the opportunity to participate in curling, horse-drawn sleigh rides and natural ice-skating, or utilise the ski resort’s high quality facilities for swimming, tennis, bowling or saunas. For hiking fans, there are 35kms of trails through spectacular scenery, and the resort’s dairy museum and flea market make good day excursions. Skiing in ToggenburgToggenburg is surrounded by virgin landscape dominated by the Gamserrugg and Chaserugg mountains, providing the resort with a breathtaking backdrop. The resort’s three villages - Wildhaus, Unterwasser and Alt St Johann - are ideal for families and mixed ability groups. Additionally, the ski resort has been awarded the ‘Families Welcome’ seal of approval for its facilities and homely atmosphere.Skiing is varied in Toggenburg, with 55kms of slopes divided among beginners (25 per cent), intermediates (50 per cent) and advanced skiers (25 per cent). A seven-kilometre slope is the resort’s longest and caters for guests who enjoy long-distance runs. Nineteen lifts serve the various pistes. In addition to the standard downhill runs, the ski resort features a myriad of off-piste trails and two terrain parks catering especially for snowboarders. Toggenburg has a fine selection of restaurants, and nightlife is vibrant in the cafés, bars and discos. The ski resort also features regular après-ski traditions in the form of concert performances and Raclette dining. Cumulatively, the villages offer roughly 5,500 guest beds in hotels, apartments and charming, family-run guesthouses. Visitor services are comprehensive, and include excellent childcare and ski tuition. Skiing is offered from November through to April in Toggenburg, with optimal snow conditions at the season’s height. It is possible to reach the resort directly by road, or via a combination of rail and road, or air/rail/road transportation. Apres-ski in ToggenburgToggenburg’s attractions are not restricted to skiing alone - there are a myriad of other facilities, activities and pastimes available to guests. The resort offers curling, horse-drawn sleigh rides and natural ice-skating. High quality facilities provide opportunities for swimming, tennis, squash, bowling and relaxing in saunas.Additionally, there are 35kms of hiking trails affording panoramic views of the exquisite surroundings. Visitors are also invited to pay a visit to the dairy museum and resort flea market. There is a bubbly après-ski scene in Toggenburg, focused on the mountain restaurants and a selection of cafés, bars and discos. Traditions that go hand-in-hand with skiing are also popular, such as Raclette dining and concert performances. Accommodation is supplied by a range of establishments, from family-owned guesthouses to charming hotel-apartments, with a total of approximately 5,500 beds. The scenic principality of Liechtenstein lies in close proximity to Toggenburg, affording attractive possibilities for daytrips. Art enthusiasts will be particularly drawn to the village of Vaduz, which houses the State Art Collection and the art compilations of Liechtenstein’s past princes. There is also a ski museum that traces the history of the sport. Transportation to ToggenburgToggenburg lies close to Liechtenstein, and there are a number of practical methods of transportation for reaching the resort. The most convenient of these is to fly to Zürich and get a rail or road transfer to the resort. Alternative options are self-drive, or rail transportation combined with a bus transfer.Toggenburg, lying only 536kms from Calais, is one of the easier ski resorts to access by car from the UK,. You will need to utilise a car ferry or the Chunnel train service but once in France, you can continue by road to Toggenburg through France and Switzerland; the journey can be completed in a day. If you fly to Zürich and hire a car to get to the resort, the route moves through Winterthur, Wil and Wattwil, to the resort. Rail travel is an additional option, but the trip from the UK involves several train connections and a bus transfer. From London, take the Eurostar from Waterloo station, connect in Paris with an overnight train to Zürich, transfer to a train to Wil, and another to Wil-Nesslau, from where a bus runs to Toggenburg. The closest international airport is at Zürich, just 1 hour, 30 minutes from the resort. Trains run from the airport to Wil, and then to Wil-Nesslau, from where you can catch a bus for the final leg of the journey. A quicker and easier alternative is to hire a car from the airport and drive through Winterthur, Wil and Wattwil to access the resort.
