The two family-orientated ski resorts offer superb off-piste opportunities and excellent and varied skiing for all levels on both sides of the valley.A lift system as well as a lake link Valbella with the charming old town of Lenzerheide. Extending along the valley is the larger Lenzerheide, while Valbella is a small backwater village. A museum, shops and a public library are among the services at both villages, while children from age two upwards can attend kindergartens and special ski classes. There are 155kms of groomed downhill slopes between the resorts, with the longest run measuring 11kms. Advanced skiers get 20kms of runs, while beginners and intermediates share an equal number of slopes. Around 35,350 skiers per hour are ushered around by 36 lifts, comprised of two cable cars, three funiculars, two gondolas, 12 chairlifts and 17 T-bars, as well as child lifts. Valbella provides 2,500 visitor beds, while Lenzerheide offers 5,200 in snow-covered surroundings at some exceptional hotels. Hotel-based entertainment rules at both villages, which have a limited après-ski consisting of a variety of bars and restaurants plus a disco. The exclusive Klosters lies to the north of here, while the charming Davos is 40 minutes away by car; both offer sophisticated skiing. Summer skiing and 220kms of slopes can be found to the west at the Flims/Laax and Falera ski resort. Medieval charm, as well as interesting sights, provide an interesting break at Chur, the capital city of Graubünden. December to April covers the ski season here, with the weeks before Christmas and the January weeks offering special rates. Flying to Zürich, boarding a train to Chur, and changing to a Postbus to the villages is the best way to get here. Skiing in Lenzerheide/ValbellaA picturesque lake separates the two ski resorts of Lenzerheide and Valbella, an intermediate skier’s dream, with 155kms of groomed slopes. Located in the canton of Graubünden in eastern Switzerland, the resort provides surprisingly steep and gladed slopes in wonderful scenery on both sides of a wooded valley.Lenzerheide / Valbella ski resort has 155kms of pisted slopes, divided into 46 per cent for beginners, 41 per cent intermediate, and 13 per cent for advanced skiers. Over 35,000 skiers per hour are carried by 36 ski lifts at the resort, which has a further 52kms of cross-country trails. The ski season is from December to April, with the best snow from February to early March. The Christmas holidays and the weeks from mid to late January provide the cheapest rates. The most convenient way to get to the ski resort of Lenzerheide / Valbella is a flight to Zürich and a hire vehicle from the airport. A practical alternative is to take the train and bus combination between the airport and the resort. Apres-ski in Lenzerheide/ValbellaBy train, the station at Chur is serviced by connecting trains from London that leave day and night. The journey takes between 13 and 20 hours and includes two to five changes. The best option is to board the Eurostar from Waterloo at 07:43, arriving in Brussels (Midi). From Brussels, catch the 12:15 train to Chur, arriving at 21:45, before continuing on the 22:00 Postbus from the bus station at Chur to Valbella and Lenzerheide (30 minutes). The entire trip will take under 14 hours.Numerous worldwide scheduled and charter flights service Zürich International Airport, the main gateway. Train departures to Valbella and Lenzerheide leave at least once every hour and include changes at Zürich and Chur, from where a Postbus will complete the journey to the resort. Transportation to Lenzerheide/ValbellaLocated 140kms southeast of Zürich, Lenzerheide and Valbella are situated south of Chur in the canton of Graubünden. The resort is accessible only by road, but nearby Chur is serviced by numerous rail connections from London, and self-driving to the resort is facilitated by an excellent network of autobahns. A flight to Zürich and transfer by train/bus is the most practical way to get here.By car from Calais, the journey is 975kms and takes about nine hours via the cities of Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Basel, Zürich and Chur. Route 3 from Chur will get you to Valbella, and then Lenzerheide. If hiring a car at Zürich Airport, drive to the A-3/13 Chur autobahn via the city of Zürich.
