Traditional buildings blend well with contemporary hotels and inns, while all the important ski sports are represented. Skiing is mainly given over to beginners and intermediates, adding to Brandnertal’s family appeal, while snowboarders also have a choice of more challenging off-piste. Fifty-six kilometres of well-groomed runs stretch over 883m of vertical mountain, and the longest run is 5.5kms. Brandnertal offers 56kms of uncongested slopes for beginner and intermediate skiers at very attractive prices, with children under six years skiing for free.About 80 per cent of Brandnertal’s 56kms of pisted slopes are for beginners and intermediates. Thirteen ski lift systems are able to carry up to 17,500 people per hour, and operate over the 883m of vertical, providing access to all pistes, the longest of which is 5.5kms. Snowboarders and advanced skiers can go off-piste, while boarders also have a half-pipe to play with; in addition, there are 40kms of cross-country trails. The Christmas to Easter ski season at Brandnertal has its best skiing during February and March, and bargains at non-school holiday times and certain weekdays. The most practical travel option for reaching Brandnertal is to fly to Zürich and take a train and bus transfer combination. Apres-ski in BrandnertalThere are 2,800 beds in a range of lovely traditional hotels, guesthouses, apartments and inns to suit all budgets. Additionally, inexpensive cafés and restaurants are neatly scattered around the town. Après-ski is atmospheric and typically Austrian, with tea dances, folklore evenings and bars and discos all playing their part. A ski kindergarten is also available to keep youngsters entertained.For alternative skiing, there is the smaller Burserberg, while the Montafon Valley and the famous Arlberg region are within easy driving distance from Brand. Malbun ski resort is also nearby in neighbouring Lichtenstein, offering limited terrain in spectacular surroundings. Transportation to BrandnertalSituated near the borders of Switzerland and Lichtenstein and 150kms east of Zürich, Brandnertal ski resort is directly accessible by road only, but has good public transport options. A return flight to Zürich and a hire car provides the most convenient travel option, while both self-drive and rail travel are also convenient and straightforward.Brand is only 10kms off the A-14 autobahn and is well connected to the European motorway network, making it easily reachable from major cities. Vienna is 620kms to the east, Zürich is 150kms to the west, and Paris is 815kms to the northwest. The quickest route from the French port of Calais goes via Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Basel and Zürich. From Zürich, the A-1 and the A-14 complete the journey via the towns of St Gallen and Feldkirch (1,000kms; 9 to 10 hours). A high-speed TGV service departs from Paris (gare de Lyon) to Geneva, from where Intercity trains go to Zürich, where you can connect with the Euronight trains to Bludenz. Buses frequently run between Bludenz and Brand. If you’re coming from the UK, a regular Eurostar service departs London (Waterloo) for Paris (Nord). The journey from London to Bludenz is about 14 hours from the UK. Zurich International Airport is the most convenient airport for Brand, with numerous flight options (including budget airlines) and a good choice of transfers. Both trains and buses go to Brand from the airport, with the train terminating at Bludenz. Friedrichshafen Airport, in Germany, is the next best alternative.
