Travel to Bjursas with travel insurance from Essential Travel

The resort of Bjursas, located in central Sweden in the heart of Dalarna County, offers gorgeous pistes, well-oiled lifts and sparkling snow. One of the best climates in the entire region blesses this snow-sure resort, otherwise known as ‘Dalarnas Schweiz’.

A typically friendly Swedish character and a strong community presence shine through at the small and intimate ski resort of Bjursas. Families are well catered for here and feel safe due to the small and compact nature of the resort. For those with nothing else on their minds but skiing, as well as first timers, the petit nature of Bjursas is perfect, as it lacks the crowds that frequent the larger resorts.

The resort offers 94kms of slopes, as well as interesting snowboard facilities. The slopes are comprised of 56 per cent beginner runs, 25 per cent intermediate level runs and 19 per cent for the expert; there are 16 slopes altogether. Around 7,200 skiers per hour are transported over the area by seven ski lifts.

The total vertical descent is a quick 198m from a height of 398m to the bottom lift at 200m. A combined ski and snowboard park provides skiers and snowboarders of all abilities with 14,000 square metres of great terrain, while an additional 35kms of cross-country slopes offer some alternative and challenging off-piste action.

Twenty rooms are available here, catering for a small number of visitors to the ski resort. The usual burgers and hot dogs, as well as typical Scandinavian cuisine, are served at the resort’s three restaurants, one of which is a ski restaurant. A special treat to pamper those after-ski aches is a visit to the spa and sauna. Alternatively, head for the bar and discotheque for light entertainment. An excursion by horse-drawn sleigh, natural ice-skating and indoor swimming are among other activities offered by the ski resort of Bjursas.

A busier setting is offered at the nearby town of Falun, with its alternative shopping, eating and drinking possibilities offering a change from the tranquillity of Bjursas. The town, however, like Bjursas, suggests a relaxed way of life typical of this region.

The Bjursas ski season runs from early December to April and, like many resorts in Sweden, offers good snow conditions. Falun is the nearest town to the resort at just 20kms, while Stockholm is 250kms from Bjursas. A flight to Stockholm and a hire vehicle will get you to the resort, while a train to Falun and bus or taxi is also an option.
