Travel to Krvavec with ski insurance from Essential Travel

Krvavec is close to Kranj and not far from Ljubljana, so a full day’s skiing on its slopes is easily managed, especially now that a new gondola takes skiers to the slopes in less than seven minutes.

Krvavec ski resort, situated on a peak at the edge of the Kalska mountain range, spreads across smooth Alpine meadows and does not require a deep blanket of snow to create ideal skiing conditions.

The slopes lie between 1,450 and 1,971m above sea level and offer 25kms of groomed runs. Skiing is situated at 1,491m, with access by gondola to 1,971m. There are wide-open well-pisted runs - the longest being 4.5kms. A separate area on Krvavec is constructed for snowboarding, containing a half-pipe and a number of jumps. The total piste length is 25kms and there are 13 lifts in operation.

The lengthy ski season at Krvavec ski resort runs from late November to early May. Krvavec is only 10kms from Ljubljana Airport, and the closest railway station is located in Kranj, 17kms away.

Skiing in Krvavec

The ski resort of Krvavec is situated in the Kamnisko-Savinjske Alps in northwestern Slovenia. The majority of skiers find their way from Ljubljana or Kranj. Krvavec is best known in Slovenia as the sunniest ski resort. The ski season runs from the end of November until early May. Ljubljanas international airport (Brnik) is just 10kms away and offers regular flight connections to a number of major European cities. Visitors can also arrive by train. The closest railway station is located in Kranj, a small town just 17kms away. Regular buses and Skibus services are available from Ljubljana and Kranj bus stations.

Après-ski in Krvavec

Krvavec has a good choice of mountain restaurants, with bands performing on a regular basis. Accommodation is available right on the slopes in the lodge, in apartments or in cabins. The majority of skiers drive here daily from Ljubljana or Kranj. Krvavec is renowned in Slovenia as being the sunniest area to ski.

Krvavec ski centre is situated on a peak at the edge of the Kalska mountain range and offers a limited amount of accommodation in hotels. Hotels in the valley have a combined capacity of 1,500 beds and are a mere 20kms from the lower cable car. Those requiring a greater range of accommodation will find 1,400 beds in villages in the valley; while Kranj and Ljubljana offer a larger selection.

Activities and facilities off the slopes include: sledding, Jacuzzi, fitness centre and solarium. There is a nightclub for après-ski, five restaurants and four snack bars. Hotels in the valley have a combined capacity of 1,500 beds and are no more than 20kms away from the lower cable car.

For alternative skiing, you can travel west to the Julian Alps, to Bohinj ski resort, which comprises the villages of Kobla and Vogel. For a daytrip away from the slopes, the nearby 700-year-old city of Kranj has a beautiful old town that draws tourists to its numerous archaeological sites and other attractions. Also worth seeing, Ljubljana is a charming city.

Transportation in Krvavec

Situated in the north of Slovenia, 32kms from Ljubljana and 265kms south of Salzburg, Krvavec ski resort is relatively easy to get to. Slovenia has excellent roads and is an integral part of the European motorway network. There are road crossings from Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Flying to Ljubljana (Brnik Airport) and taking a taxi is the easiest option.

Driving around Slovenia is a pleasant experience, as the roads are picturesque and the landscapes are ever-changing. Visitors are able to rent a car from various major international car hire companies. Krvavec is only 10kms from Ljubljana Airport.

You can enter Slovenia by train from Italy (via Trieste), Austria (via Graz) and Croatia. Direct trains from places including Vienna, Salzburg, Venice, Milan, Munich, Budapest and Brigade pass through Slovenia. The closest railway station to Krvavec is located in Kranj, a small town just 17kms away.

Slovenias superb position in the heart of Europe makes it just a short journey away by air from most places. Ljubljana Airport is a few minutes north of the capital city, and is served by daily flights from most major European hubs, operated by Adria Airways, the national carrier, as well as other reputable airlines.

It is also possible to get to and around Slovenia by bus. There is an extensive timetable of services to and from neighbouring countries, and internal bus transport is well organised and relatively inexpensive. Regular buses and Skibus services are available to Krvavec from Ljubljana and Kranj bus stations.
