Essential Travel Ski Guides
click here for a ski insurance quotation Travel to Morocco with ski insurance from Essential TravelOccupying the northwestern tip of North Africa, Morocco is steeped in history and is home to such famed cities as Casablanca, Marrakech and Tangier and is also known for its open-air markets that are loaded with jewellery, rugs and quality leather. Morocco is chiefly associated with deserts and heat, yet there are one or two ski areas here that offer cool and quiet respite from the bustling cities and warm temperatures. Morocco’s ski season generally extends from December to March, with the best snow appearing in January. Near the town of Ifrane and nearly 200 miles from Casablanca, Michlifen ski resort is situated at over 6,500 feet above sea level and receives a fair amount of snow on its four slopes, while two ski lifts provide access over the 656-foot vertical. The top ski resort in Morocco is Oukaimeden, which happens to be North Africas largest ski resort, conveniently located near Marrakech. Oukaimeden has 20 slopes that traverse more than 10 miles of terrain, with the longest slope at two miles, while there are also plenty of alternative activities available. Views from the top slopes are stunning. Other resorts within proximity include Arzou, Djebel Bou Iblane, Hoher Atlas and Rif Gebirge. There are four international airports in Morocco at Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech and Agadir, with frequent connections with European and other major world cities. You can also bring your own car from southern Europe on one of the many ferry services. Internal flights are the only real way to cross the country, but they are relatively expensive. Rail travel is faster than the fairly reliable bus services in the country, while shared taxis are also very popular here. Car hire is expensive and police and customs road blocks are common. If you plan on skiing in Morocco, you should take out travel insurance for you and your family before travelling as accidents on the slopes happen regularly. If you plan on driving in Morocco, this is another good reason for taking out insurance as the accident rate here is substantially higher per head than the average European country.
