Travel to Hyundai Sungwoo with ski insurance from Essential Travel

Located a few hours drive from Seoul in the scenic region of Gangwon, Hyundai Sungwoo is a summer and winter resort that encompasses 20 diverse ski slopes in a gorgeous natural setting.

There are two double diamond runs for experts and ski tuition classes available for all levels. The C3 challenge run is ideal for adrenalin junkies, with an overall grade of 34 per cent and 62.5 per cent at its steepest point. Transport to the descents is provided by a system of nine ski lifts made up of eight chairlifts and a gondola, with a cumulative uplift capacity of 20,000 skiers per hour.

In addition to its superb range of ski slopes, Hyundai Sungwoo also has a mind-boggling array of alternative facilities and activities on offer. Visitors can enjoy a variety of games, sports and entertainment during off-slope hours, while Hyundai Sungwoo also encompasses all kinds of services and facilities to ensure a relaxed, hassle-free holiday. Lodging is provided in condominiums, hotels and youth hostels.

Hyundai Sungwoo is located a short distance from Mount Chiaksan National Park and offers excellent recreational opportunities in exquisite natural surroundings. Additionally, the ski resort is less than a 2-hour drive from Seoul, where there are countless sightseeing highlights to choose from.

The ski season at Hyundai Sungwoo extends roughly from November to early March, with slight changes from year to year depending on weather conditions. The resort is easily accessible by car or shuttle bus from Seoul.

Skiing in Hyundai Sungwoo

Just a 2-hour drive from Seoul in Gangwon Province, Hyundai Sungwoo is one of Korea’s premier ski resorts and has been chosen as the site for the 2009 World Snowboard Championship Games and World Cup Snowboard Games. It is located amid breathtaking mountain scenery, in close proximity to the beautiful Mount Chiaksan National Park.

Hyundai Sungwoo is one of the nation’s best ski resorts, with 20 extremely varied slopes to challenge the best skiers in the world. The resort offers fun and excitement for all ages and skiing abilities, with several smooth novice trails, an array of intermediate runs and a number of challenging slopes for advanced and expert riders. Those itching for a rush should try skiing Hyundai Sungwoo’s two double diamond slopes. The slopes are served by nine ski lifts including eight chairlifts and one state-of-the-art, eight-person gondola. In addition to skiing, snowboarding and sledding are also available at Hyundai Sungwoo.

While best known for its skiing, Hyundai Sungwoo is a year-round holiday destination and an enormous range of other activities and useful facilities are on offer at the resort. Visitors have full use of the resort’s gym, swimming pool, bowling alley, arcade room, sauna, health club, dart board, billiards table, table tennis table and sledding area, while a theatre, karaoke and a variety of Korean and Western restaurants provide opportunities for après-ski entertainment.

Plenty of skiing accommodation is available at Hyundai Sungwoo, with lodging options including hotels, condominiums or youth hostels. The resort has a comprehensive range of facilities and services to ensure visitor convenience and peace of mind, with an internet café, first aid room, ski rental, ski tuition, seminar room and beauty salon all located on-site.

Skiing is usually offered at Hyundai Sungwoo between November and March, but the season is subject to changes depending on weather conditions. From Seoul, the resort can be reached by car or shuttle bus, with a journey time of 2 hours.

Transportation to Hyundai Sungwoo

Hyundai Sungwoo is located in the area of Dunnae-myeon, Hwoingseong-gun, in Gangwon Province, and the journey to the resort takes roughly 2 hours via road transportation, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Shuttle buses run regularly from Seoul to the resort or alternatively visitors can hire a car in the city and drive themselves to resort.

Self-drive is the easiest and most convenient way to reach Hyundai Sungwoo and there are plenty of car rental agencies in Seoul. The quickest road route to the resort is via the Yeongdong highway.

Seoul’s Incheon International Airport is the closest international air transportation hub to Hyundai Sungwoo and is located roughly 10 miles from the city centre. Visitors arriving in Korea from foreign destinations are likely to touch down here, while those visiting from other parts of the country may land at Seoul’s Gimpo Domestic Airport. Taxi, bus and shuttle buses are available from both airports, offering transportation to destinations across Seoul, including departure points for Hyundai Sungwoo.

Taxis and shuttle buses depart from opposite the Kangwon-do Wonju Express Bus Terminal, located at Wonju local public office, providing direct transportation to the ski resort. Alternatively, take subway line 2 to Jamsil Station and then a non-stop bus to Hyundai Sungwoo from the back entrance of the Lotte Hotel Jamsil. Buses leave from Jamsil at 09:30 from Sunday to Friday and at 14:00 on Saturdays; advance booking is recommended.
