Deep within the Stelvio National Park, which extends across the magnificent Val Venosta, sits the resort of Solda - Trafoi, surrounded by the resplendent Ortles-Cevedale mountain range. Close to both the Swiss and Austrian borders, the resort is situated high up in the most northern region of Italy, and is the perfect getaway location.

Solda - Trafoi consists of two unspoilt Alpine villages with under 460 inhabitants and is close to the world famous Dolomites. An amiable family resort with a calming nature, Solda - Trafoi has an enviable view of surrounding glaciers and mountain ranges. Its religious architecture and typical chalets and pensions exemplify the authenticity and ambience of the resort.

The Solda - Trafoi ski resort sits between 1,850m and 2,499m and has a combined 50kms of pistes divided into 30 per cent for beginners, 60 per cent intermediates and 10 per cent for advanced skiers. Seventeen lifts service the resort, with a top elevation of 3,250m and a bottom elevation of 1,570m. The cross country at this resort adds up to 18kms in total, with areas perfect for snowboarding. Three ski schools offer attentive tuition at this wonderfully situated resort.

The Val Venosta is home to three other resorts in easy reach of Solda - Trafoi, affording spectacular views and skiing opportunities amid the encompassing mountain ranges of the Ortles-Cevedale. These can all be reached by bus transfer shuttles between the resorts.

Skiing is available from November through to April, with good conditions and perfect sunshine all season. Solda-Trafoi is 82kms from Bolzano Airport, which offers connections to London. From here, take a local train and bus service to the resort.

Skiing in Solda Trafoi

Solda - Trafoi possesses some of the finest views of the encompassing mountain ranges, including the breathtaking Ortles-Cevedale. It is a small resort with an amiable character providing ski facilities in a formidable setting.

The resort itself, which sits between 1,850m and 2,499m, consists of two small villages with fewer than 460 residents and has around 2,300 beds available for visitors. It sits within the Val Venosta and is part of the Stelvio Natural Park region, one of Italy’s most northern spots. Solda - Trafoi boasts some fine mountain restaurants, cafés and bars, plus three ski schools with provisions for children.

Fifty kilometres of pistes, divided into 30 per cent for beginners, 60 per cent for intermediates and 10 per cent for advanced skiers, offer superb skiing at Solda - Trafoi. Seventeen lifts service the resort, with a top elevation of 3,250m and a bottom elevation of 1,570m. Solda - Trafoi has a vertical descent of 650m. There are an extra 18kms of cross-country runs at the resort, with areas perfect for snowboarders. Three ski schools provide patient and attentive tuition.

The ski season at Solda - Trafoi runs from November through to April, with good snow and great sunny conditions.

Solda - Trafoi is 82kms from Bolzano Airport, which receives flights from London. A connecting bus provides a regular service from Bolzano to the resort. Alternatively, you can catch the Eurostar train service from London to Verona, and connect with a local train service to Silandro, just 27 minutes from the resort by bus.

Apres-ski in Solda Trafoi

Aside from the slopes, there are a handful of après-ski and leisure activities available at Solda - Trafoi. These activities include: natural ice-skating, tobogganing and indoor swimming. The après-ski is very subdued, ensuring a relaxed stay, and consists of mountain restaurants, bars and cafés along the traditional Alpine streets of the resort.

The ski resort of Solda - Trafoi can comfortably accommodate 2,300 visitors within its typical Alpine lodges, chalets and hotels. Elegant mountain restaurants perch among the sparkling glacier walls, while cafés, bars and discotheques provide a lively après-ski, free from crowds. Natural ice-skating facilities, tobogganing and indoor swimming make engaging non-ski alternatives. The resort also provides ski schools for children of all ages.

Transportation to Solda Trafoi

Travel to the resort of Solda - Trafoi will invariably involve a combination of air, rail and road journeys. The most time-saving and convenient way to get to the resort is to fly to Bolzano Airport in Italy and transfer to a train service which runs to within 26kms of the resort; from there, complete the journey by regular bus service. Alternatively, a train journey via the Eurostar to Paris from London, an overnight train from Paris to Verona and a local train and bus service to the resort is another option. A package deal will make travel to the resort considerably easier.

By car, Solda - Trafoi is 1,008kms from Calais, with a journey time of 11 hours and 40 minutes. The toll road costs are around €19 and the journey takes you through France and Switzerland before reaching Italy. If you plan to fly to Bolzano and drive from there, take the SS42 and the SS38 all the way to the resort, 26kms away.

By train, board the Eurostar from London Waterloo or Ashford in Kent to Paris (2 hours, 30 minutes). Take the overnight train from Paris to Verona (11 hours) before taking the Verona-Trento-Bolzano-Merano-Silandro train service to Silandro. From there, a regular bus service is available to the resort.

The nearest airports to Solda - Trafoi are Bolzano in Italy and Innsbruck in Austria. Bolzano Airport is 82kms from the resort and has flights from London. A local train service on the Verona-Trento-Bolzano-Merano-Silandro line to Silandro will get you a point 26kms from the resort. From the train station, take a regular bus service up to Solda - Trafoi.
