It is a perfect resort for serious skiers and caters well for groups of all abilities. Piancavallo is particularly attractive to young skiers and has played host to several World Cup championships, including freestyle competitions. The resort was developed as a purpose-built ski area just 20 years ago, but unlike many of its counterparts, it has been thoughtfully and carefully designed and has ski-in/ski-out accessibility. The village centre is mostly pedestrianised, with a large covered shopping area and a new sports and games hall. With a top elevation of 2,000m and a vertical descent of 700m, the impressive ski area of Piancavallo radiates out around the village with the well-maintained pistes geared mostly for beginners to intermediates. Accommodation is in hotels, chalets and apartments and there are more than 7,500 beds available for all budgets. Ice-skating and dog-sledding are part of the non-ski activities on offer and Piancavallo has dozens of cafés and restaurants, both on and off the mountain.
