Many people prefer to stay in the city of Trento itself, where there are more facilities available and a wider range of accommodation. There are 19 slopes at Monte Bondone ski resort that run over 20kms of fantastic ski and snowboard terrain, with an emphasis on intermediates. Six chairlifts and a drag lift provide access to all pistes, the longest of which is the Gran Pista at four kilometres, down an 800m vertical. Snowboarders also have the snow park, featuring jumps, rail and snow-cross. The ski season at Monte Bondone ski resort runs from December to April and the most convenient means for getting here is to fly to Verona and hire a car, or take a train/bus combination transfer. Skiing in Monte BondoneMonte Bondone is a medium altitude ski resort, located southwest of Trento, and is one of the oldest ski areas in the country. Characterized by its 20kms of snowboard and ski slopes through typical beautiful Alpine landscape of fir and larice forests, Monte Bondone is ideal for intermediate level snowboarders. The 20kms of slopes at Monte Bondone are divided into 30 per cent novice, 65 per cent intermediate and five per cent for advanced snowboarders and skiers. The longest run is four kilometres and seven lifts supply all pistes at an hourly capacity of 7,000 people. Additionally, there are 37kms of cross-country trails in the Viote Valley and snowboarders have an excellent snow park. You can choose to stay at one of the villages near Monte Bondone, such as Vaneze, Vason and Sardagna, or perhaps Trento itself. Facilities in the villages are fairly limited, but you will find plenty of shops and other amenities. Hotels, apartments and residences provide the bulk of the accommodation and childcare is available. The December to April ski season has its best snow conditions in February. The majority of people fly to Verona, Milan or Venice-Marco Polo and take a train to Trento, from where buses go to Monte Bondone. Apres-ski in Monte BondoneAccommodation around the various villages is usually in hotels, apartments and residences and there are over 1,000 beds available. There are several good cafés and restaurants at Monte Bondone and après-ski is fairly lively, comprising folklore evenings, concerts, bars and discos. A children’s ski school and a nursery are also available.Ice-skating, mono-skiing and paragliding are among the other winter activities and facilities at Monte Bondone ski resort while the après-ski features an ice bar and several regular bars and discos. Concerts and folklore evenings also add flavour to the night-time entertainment. The nearby resorts of Folgarida, Marilleva, Pejo, Pinzolo, Passo Tonale and Madonna di Campiglio offer alternative skiing and snowboarding and can be enjoyed on a single weekly ski pass. For breathtaking views of Trento and the surrounding mountains and valleys, take the lift to the top of Palon (2090m). Only 30 minutes away by car, Trento features beautiful art, Romanesque and Gothic Renaissance monuments and buildings. Transportation in Monte BondoneLocated 15kms southwest of Trento and 110kms north of Verona, in the province of Trentino, Monte Bondone ski resort is only directly accessible by road but is straightforward enough to get to. Flying to Verona and hiring a car is the quickest option, while travelling by rail is convenient and self-drive fairly arduous.By car, Monte Bondone is near to the A-22 (north-south) Modena-Innsbruck autopista, which is part of the European motorway network. However if travelling from the UK, be prepared for a long journey. The quickest route from Calais goes via Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Ulm, Innsbruck, Bolzano, and Trento. From there, head for Cadine, to the west, and get on the SP85 for Monte Bondone (1,250kms 13 to 14 hours). Travelling by train from the UK is far easier than driving and involves minimal changes. Eurostar trains leave for Paris from Waterloo station in London regularly. There is a direct service to Milan from Paris and an easy connection onward to Verona. Take the Brennero Railway to Trento, from where buses go to Monte Bondone. Verona Airport is the nearest international airport (A-22), but has less flight options than Milan’s Linate Airport (A-4, A22). Other than hiring a car, the best way to get to Monte Bondone from either airport is to take a train to Trento, from where buses go to the resort. Venice-Marco Polo Airport is another alternative. |
