Travel to Mount Hermon with ski insurance from Essential Travel

Located in the northern reaches of Israel, not far from Nazareth, Mount Hermon is the highest point in the country and is also home to Israel’s only ski resort. Mount Hermon is only a small resort, but it has a fair number of runs and some good off-piste for experienced skiers and snowboarders.

The base at Mount Hermon ski resort is located at 4,593 feet above sea level and has all essential ski and snowboard facilities including equipment rentals and ski and snowboard lessons for all the family. Refreshments and snacks are supplied at the ski resort, but for accommodation and après-ski you will need to try the selection of hotels, restaurants and bars at the nearby village of Neve Ativ.

There are 14 slopes at Mount Hermon ski resort that are mostly suited to beginners and intermediates, adding up to a total of 28 miles of runs, including the higher altitude off-piste. Most of the runs are fairly short, although a little-used intermediate run offers 5 to 10 minutes of sliding, while a very shallow learning slope takes care of timid skiers. Seven ski lifts provide slope access over the 2,034-feet vertical.

For a break from the slopes at Mount Hermon ski resort, the picturesque village of Neve Ativ offers some sightseeing, while the nearby Sea of Galilee offers marvellous views. The ancient town of Nazareth is northwest of Mount Hermon and boasts the ancient fortress town of Megiddo, the Church of the Annunciation and Mary’s Well.

Mount Hermon ski resort’s ski season extends from December to April, with the best snow in February and cheaper rates available on weekdays. The most convenient way to get here if you’re not already in the country is to fly to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport and take a shuttle transfer or hire a car.

Skiing in Mount Hermon

Located on Israel’s highest peak and the country’s only ski resort, Mount Hermon ski resort offers more than a dozen pistes for skiers and snowboarders to learn and practise on, as well as lots of off-piste steeps and jumps. While the snow consistency can be varied, the views are simply amazing and the nearby accommodation is convenient.

Mount Hermon’s mixture of pistes and off-piste runs stretch for a respectable 28 miles and feature everything from learner and beginner slopes to intermediate and expert runs on the upper off-piste terrain. However, the majority of terrain is for beginners, with short slopes and shallow angles, with a vertical of 2,034 feet. Seven ski lifts provide access to the slopes.

In addition to skiing and snowboarding at Mount Hermon ski resort there is also sleigh riding and a sledge roller coaster, while some of the hotels in Neve Ativ have saunas and Jacuzzis. Après-ski entertainment is supplied in the town, where you will find a glut of restaurants and bars.

Facilities at Mount Hermon ski resort base consist of ski and snowboard rentals and a cafeteria, while those who wish to stay here will have to head to the village of Neve Ativ, where there are plentiful lodges and hotels and great food.

The best chance at getting good snow in Mount Hermon ski resort is during February, while snowy weekends tend to be packed out with locals and are more expensive than weekdays. Most people fly to Tel Aviv and hire a car or take a shuttle bus to get to the resort.

Transportation to Mount Hermon

Mount Hermon ski resort is northeast of Tel Aviv and east of the town of Haifa in southeastern Hazafon. The resort is directly accessible by road only. Options for getting here include driving up from Tel Aviv or taking a shuttle bus, or alternatively you can take a domestic flight to Haifa and drive from there.

By road from Tel Aviv, take highway 2 north of Haifa for about 37 miles before heading northeast for Afula. Drive right through the town of Afula and on towards Tiberius. After going through the town of Kiryat Schmona, take a right for Mount Hermon ski resort and follow the signs from there.

Tel Aviv-Ben Gurion International Airport is about 12.5 miles east of Tel Aviv and receives flights from numerous cities worldwide, including London. Shuttle buses leave for Mount Hermon ski resort in the winter, while flights also connect passengers to Haifa. The journey by car is about 112 miles and takes 2 to 3 hours, while the trip from Haifa is a 1-hour drive.
