Travel to Mount Parnassos with ski insurance from Essential Travel

Mount Parnassos ski resort is the biggest and most developed of Greece’s ski areas and also one of the most popular due to its close proximity to Athens.

Mt Parnassos ski resort offers a complete range of facilities and services, including ski hire and repair, a ski and snowboard school, childcare and a first-aid centre. The complex consists of two centres: Fterolaka and Kellaria.

Mt Parnassos boasts 20 runs, with a total length of 14kms, over a vertical drop of 620m. These are serviced by 13 lifts, with the longest trail coming in at a respectable four kilometres. Most are beginner and intermediate runs, with a couple of black runs to challenge advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Après-ski is catered for by several restaurants, cafés and bars, located slope-side. Lodging can be found in Delphi, a beautiful historic town on the slopes of Mt Parnassos not far from the resort. Other lodging options are scattered nearby, with many commanding spectacular mountain and valley views.

The ski season usually kicks off at the end of December and runs through to the end of April. A day ski pass costs almost twice as much on weekends and public holidays due to the resort’s popularity among Athenians. The best way to get here is to fly into Athens and hire a car for the journey up to the slopes.

Skiing in Mount Parnassos

Skiing in Mt Parnassos ski resort can get crowded on weekends, but during the week lift lines drop dramatically and skiing Mt Parnassos’ varied terrain becomes much more relaxed. The après-ski is lively, snowboarders are welcome, and the surrounding scenery is truly breathtaking.

Après-ski in Mount Parnassos

The resort consists of two base lodges which offer several restaurants, self-serve cafés, and bars that see plenty of action on weekends. Popular lodging options include the numerous hotels in Delphi and the ever-increasing number of establishments spread along the slopes of Mt Parnassos.

For a break from the slopes, Delphi offers enough attractions to keep you occupied for days. Its glorious history is detailed in numerous ancient remains, historical sites, and excellent museums. Alternatively, the mountain village of Arachova is well known for its hand-loomed rugs, charming little shops and street cafés.

Transportation in Mount Parnassos

Mt Parnassos ski resort is the largest in Greece and is located just 180kms northwest of Athens, near the historical town of Delphi. The easiest way to get here is to fly into Athens and hire a car for the scenic drive to the slopes. Buses also regularly ply the route between Athens and Delphi.

If driving from Athens, take the Athens-Corinth National Highway 74kms west to the Thebes turnoff and on to Levadia. Then take the Distomo turnoff and continue for 26kms to Arachova. From there, the final 27kms up the mountain to the resort takes about an hour; be aware that this road is prone to closure due to fog.

Athens International Airport is the nearest major air hub and offers flights to and from most major European cities, including a direct service from London. Taxi and hire car services are available from the airport.

There are five daily buses to Delphi from the Athens bus station at 260 Liossion.
