Stoneham ski resort is a small resort nestled in the Laurentian Mountains just 25kms north of Québec City. It’s an excellent resort for children learning to ski, with a fun outdoor park and professional ski school; while snowboarders are treated to one of Canada’s best terrain parks.

Facilities are comprehensive at Stoneham and include: childcare, Children Island (a colourful area purpose-built for kids), restaurants, bars, night skiing, and a professional ski school.

A total of 30 runs are spread over four mountains, and all are serviced by 10 lifts with an hourly capacity of over 14,000 people. The longest run is a respectable 3.2kms. There are also 20kms of cross-country trails and three terrain parks featuring a super-pipe, half-pipe, and plenty of rails and table-tops.

The official ski season runs from mid-November through to mid-April. The best way to get here is to fly into Québec City and take a taxi directly to the resort.

Skiing in Stoneham

There is a limited amount of ski-in/ski-out accommodation at Stoneham, while its proximity to lovely Québec City gives you a much expanded range of lodging options to suit all budgets. Facilities at the resort include a childcare service, professional ski and snowboard school, ski hire and repair, night skiing and ice skating.

The three excellent terrain parks feature a super-pipe, half-pipe, and plenty of rails and table-tops. There are also 20kms of groomed cross-country trails and a kilometre-long boarder-cross course.

Stoneham’s modest après-ski is made up of four restaurants and two bars, providing for a relaxing experience at the end of a hard day’s skiing. For those with the energy, nearby Québec City offers a plethora of night-time entertainment.

Après-ski in Stoneham

Stoneham offers ski-in/ski-out lodging in the form of condos and hotels; while for a much larger range of options, you should head for Québec City. Here you’ll also find livelier nightlife, as well as a wide array of restaurants to suit all tastes.

Nearby Québec City, boasting beautiful architecture and a picturesque setting, as well as a vibrant cultural scene, makes for a fascinating daytrip away from the slopes. Mont-Sainte-Anne is located northeast of Stoneham and provides a great supplement to Stoneham’s runs.

Transportation in Stoneham

Stoneham ski resort is within easy reach of Québec City; the effortless 25-kilometre drive makes it a favourite among locals as well as the visitors who fly into Québec City’s Jean Lesage International Airport. The best form of transportation from the city is to simply grab a taxi to the resort.

If driving from Québec City, take route 138 east, route 40 north and east, and then route 73 north to Stoneham. The 25-kilometre drive is simple and pleasant. If driving from Montréal, take highway 20 to Québec City, from where route 73 will take you to Stoneham. The total distance is around 270kms (three hours).

Trains run several times daily from Toronto, Ottawa and Montréal to Québec City, and represent a fast and efficient means of transportation. Train services also run from numerous cities along the US eastern seaboard.

Jean Lesage International Airport is a major air hub and receives flights daily from across North America and Europe. The best transfer option is to hire a car or take a taxi to Stoneham; bus transportation is also available.

Greyhound provides a coach service to Québec City from Toronto, Ottawa and Montréal, as well as from major US cities along the east coast, including New York and Boston. There is an hourly bus service run by Orléans Express operating between Montréal and points throughout Québec City.
