Travel to Mont Olympia with ski insurance from Essential Travel

The village of Mont Olympia is small, with only basic facilities located onsite. The atmosphere at the ski resort is supremely laid-back, but those looking for more excitement can find it just a short drive away, in the vibrant city of Montréal.

Mont Olympia is an ideal resort for learners, with 52 per cent of its 23 ski slopes geared for beginners. Intermediates have 22 per cent of the runs, while advanced and expert skiers have 13 per cent each. The longest slope at Mont Olympia is 1.375kms, but the resort also offers access to 20kms of Nordic trails. Six lifts provide transportation to all pistes.

Alternatives to the slopes at Mont Olympia are limited to taking advantage of the hotel’s spa facilities, or dinner and drinks at the hotel restaurant and bar. Visitors looking for a livelier après-ski scene should make their way to nearby Saint-Sauveur, which also provides additional lodging facilities to complement the limited selection at Mont Olympia.

Mont Olympia’s ski season runs from December to April, with reliable snow coverage throughout due to the resort’s snow machines. The easiest way to reach the resort is by flying to Montréal and utilising bus transportation to get to the resort.

Skiing in Mont Olympia

Located in the stunningly beautiful Sauveur Valley, Mont Olympia offers skiing suitable for all levels of ability, but the resort is particularly fitting to the lower levels, with over half the available slopes allocated to beginners. Mont Olympia is a low-key, family-style resort with limited accommodation but all the necessary facilities.

Twenty-three runs are featured at Mont Olympia, the majority of which (52 per cent) offer skiing for beginners. The remaining pistes are split up among intermediates (22 per cent), advanced skiers and snowboarders (13 per cent) and experts (13 per cent).

A system of six lifts, with the capacity to transport 8,000 visitors per hour, operates at the resort. The longest run is 1.375kms. In addition to the downhill runs, snowboarders have access to a terrain park, and night skiing is also available at Mont Olympia.

Mont Olympia is open for skiing from December to April, with snow cannons ensuring good snow coverage throughout, but best natural conditions are in the month of February. Most visitors access Mont Olympia by flying into Montréal-Dorval International Airport and taking a bus to Saint-Sauveur, from where buses and taxis go to the resort.

Après-ski in Mont Olympia

A ski school, a ski and repair shop, and a cafeteria are the only facilities featured at Mont Olympia, with the exception of the single hotel with its restaurant, bar and spa. Much more in the way of shops, services and lodging can be found within a short drive of the ski area, at Saint-Sauveur.

The village hotel has wonderful spa facilities that are a blissful treat after an active day of skiing. Nightlife at Mont Olympia is limited to the onsite restaurant and bar, but there are far more opportunities for après-ski in nearby Saint-Sauveur, which boasts a wide selection of eateries, bars and bistros.

The Saint-Sauveur Valley is home to a number of ski resorts, so if Mont Olympia’s slope selection becomes mundane, there is a wide choice at your fingertips. Mont Avila, Mont Saint-Sauveur, Ski Mont Gabriel and Ski Morin Heights are located in the immediate vicinity, while legendary Mont Tremblant and beautiful Mont Blanc are just a short trip north. For a break from skiing, the city of Montréal is an unforgettable destination, and is located within easy access of Mont Olympia
