Travel to Zillertal-Hintertux/Mayrhofen

Hintertux and Mayrhofen ski resorts are located in the scenic Zillertal Valley, southeast of Innsbruck in Tyrol province. Transportation to Zillertal-Hintertux/Mayrhofwen

The Mayrhofen ski region is located in the province of Tyrol, southeast of Innsbruck, and connected with three other ski areas to create the massive Ski-Zillertal 3000, which also incorporates the Hintertux Glacier and ski resort. The region can be reached by road, rail or air (with transfer). The latter option is the quickest and most convenient, but also the most expensive.

Self-drive from the UK is a lengthy process, with an initial transfer over the English Channel via car ferry, and then a 1,130-kilometre drive from the French port of Calais, mostly along major highways.

If you fly into Munich Airport and hire a car for the rest of the journey, take the A-9, A-99 (Munich bypass), A-8 and A-12 autobahns, and then exit at junction 39 on to the B-169 for Mayrhofen. From Salzburg, take the A-8 (Munich-Salzburg) autobahn as far as the southbound A-93; this leads on to the A-12, where you must exit at junction 39 on to the B-169.

Train travel from the UK is affordable, comfortable and efficient, extending all the way to Mayrhofen. The Eurostar runs twice daily from London to Paris, where you can catch a connecting train to Zürich (either a high-speed TGV, or a later overnight train). From Zürich, several trains go daily to Innsbruck and then on to Jenbach, where you will need to switch to a private, light-rail track to Mayrhofen.

Zillertal – Hintertux / Mayrhofen is served by three airports, Munich, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Innsbruck is the closest but is a provincial airport, hence receiving flights only from Austria and some major European cities (including London).
