Kirchberg appeals to a younger crowd and boasts some of the wildest après-ski in Austria. The resort is also popular with serious skiers, offering a good selection of pistes over varies varied terrain.Kirchberg is a picturesque village, much smaller than Kitzbühel, with everything in easy walking distance. The village is characterised by its high quality skiing, lively nightlife and vibrant atmosphere. The ski resort boasts 160kms of diverse runs, located in two main areas – the Hahnenkamm and Kitzbüheler Horn, of which the former is significantly larger, with a plethora of intermediate runs. The slopes are suitable for all levels of ability, but beginners and intermediates have a far greater range of piste options to choose from, with only 12 per cent of the slopes allocated to advanced/expert skiers. The longest run at Kirchberg is eight kilometres, and the slopes are serviced by a system of 56 lifts. In addition to the downhill runs, the resort offers 120kms of cross-country runs, and the opportunity for guided off-trail adventures that are far more likely to appeal to experienced skiers than the gentler resort runs. Kirchberg also offers a multitude of alternative winter activities and facilities in addition to its ski slopes, including: tobogganing, sledding, ice-skating, curling, hiking, indoor swimming, hot tubs, jacuzzisjacuzzis, saunas, bowling, and a sports hall. Accommodation ranges from luxury hotels and lodges to more affordable pensions and apartments. The ski season in Kirchberg runs from mid-December to mid-April, with cheapest rates offered from mid-March to the end of the season. The most convenient way to get to the resort is to fly into Salzburg and take the train the rest of the way. Skiing in KirchbergKirchberg is situated in the Tyrol region of Austria, 90kms west of Salzburg and 86kms east of Innsbruck. The resort is a more affordable counterpart of its famous neighbour, Kitzbühel, offering high quality skiing pistes on the same mountain.The skiing at Kirchberg is particularly suitable for beginners and intermediates, with 48 per cent and 40 per cent of slopes allocated to these levels, respectively. Advanced/expert skiers are also catered for, but on a far smaller scale – only 12 per cent of the 160kms of pistes in Kirchberg are available for the upper levels of skiing expertise. However, the ski resort does offer the opportunity for guided off-piste tours that provide the challenges lacking in the downhill runs. Additionally, there are 120kms of cross-country trails (with four primary routes of varying levels of difficulty) and snowboarding terrain parks and half-pipes. Kirchberg offers skiing from mid-December to mid-April, with the best conditions from mid-February to mid-March, and the cheapest rates before December 19 and from mid-March to the end of the season. The ski resort can be accessed by road, rail, or a combination of air transportation with one of the former options to complete the journey. Apres-ski in KirchbergKirchberg’s buzzing après-ski scene is one of the resort’s major drawcards. The village is spiced with a host of mountain restaurants, cafés, coffeehouses, pubs, bars and discos, resulting in a thriving social scene in off-slope hours.One of Kirchberg’s greatest attractions is its pulsating après-ski scene, with an enormous variety of eateries, bars and pubs providing nightly entertainment. The resort also presents visitors with a vast range of alternatives to skiing the slopes, offering tobogganing, sledding, ice-skating, curling, hiking, indoor swimming, hot tubs, jacuzzis, saunas, bowling, and a sports hall. For sightseers, Kirchberg’s beautiful church is an additional attraction worth visiting. Nearby Kitzbühel ski resort provides visitors with an excellent range of alternative pistes, as well as entertainment galore and a charming town centre, featuring pretty buildings and cobbled streets. A variety of quality lodging options are available in the town, from exclusive hotels to pensions and private apartments. Most accommodation is located conveniently close to the restaurants and bars. Transportation to KirchbergKirchberg is situated in the Austrian province of Tyrol, 90kms west of Salzburg and 86kms east of Innsbruck. The resort has good road and rail connections to the rest of Europe, and is within easy travelling distance of both Munich and Salzburg airports. The most convenient means of reaching the resort is by flying to one of these airports, and utilising public transport or hiring a car to access Kirchberg.Travelling by road from the UK involves taking a car ferry as far as the French port of Calais, from which Kirchberg is approximately 1,100kms, along good quality motorways. If you are driving from Munich’s FJ Strauss Airport, head south towards the city on the A-99 bypass. From the bypass, take the A-8, A-93 and A-12 south, then take the B-312 and B-70 to the resort. Kirchberg has its own train station and can be easily accessed by means of the European rail network, albeit with several changes. From London, Eurostar trains leave daily from Waterloo station to Paris. From gare de l’Est in Paris, take the connecting overnight train to Munich, then a Eurocity train to Innsbruck, and finally, a train to Kirchberg. Salzburg is the nearest international airport, with good public transport connections to Kirchberg. Trains go at least every hour to Kitzbühel and then on to Kirchberg ski resort, taking three hours to reach the resort. Additionally, buses go from Salzburg train station and are quicker than the train. Another option is to fly into Munich airport Airport and hire a car to drive the scenic route to Kirchberg.
