Las Lenas ski resort is located in Argentina’s Mendoza province, 44 miles from the town of Malargue. A high resort, Las Lenas has a top elevation of 11,256 feet and a vertical drop of 3,937 feet. Most skiers find staying at the resort itself is the most convenient option. There are 13 hotels at Las Lenas resort, all with the advantage of chairlifts only 590 feet away. The Las Lenas resort has good facilities including: many quality restaurants, both on and off the slope; a shopping complex; child care; and a casino at the lavish Hotel Piscis. Skiers will be pleased with the 29 pistes covering an area of 568 acres. The longest run is four miles. Off-piste skiers have a massive area to explore, with heli-skiing available at the resort. Thirteen chairlifts provide access to the runs and modern snow cannons are used at Las Lenas to enhance skiing even in poor weather conditions. Beginners, intermediate, advanced and expert skiers are all well taken care of at Las Lenas ski resort. Night skiing is also available at the resort, with 4,593 feet of well illuminated pistes.

Alternative places to ski near Las Lenas can be found at Mendoza’s other resorts, which include Los Penitentes, Vallecitos and Los Puquios. As a break from skiing, the city of Mendoza provides many tourist attractions. Some of the city’s highlights can be found in the downtown area, with its bustling shopping area and superb nightlife.

The ski season at Las Lenas runs from mid-June to mid-September. The most convenient method of transport to the area is by plane from Buenos Aires to Malargue, then by taking a transfer to the resort by bus, a total journey time of 2 hours, 30 minutes.

Skiing in Las Lenas

The Las Lenas ski resort is part of the Mendoza region of Argentina and is 746 miles from Buenos Aires. One of the finest and largest ski resorts in Argentina, Las Lenas offers excellent facilities and slopes. The 27 prepared pistes are suitable for all levels of ability. The Las Lenas Valley is an area prone to avalanches, so take notice of any signs or warnings that runs have been closed.

The ski runs at Las Lenas cover an area of 568 acres. The 29 slopes have a total length of 45 miles, while the longest run is over four miles in length. The pistes are classified according to ability, with five per cent being suitable for beginners, 30 per cent for intermediates, 25 per cent for advanced and 40 per cent for expert skiers. The mountain is easily accessible by a system of 13 chairlifts with a capacity to lift 10,000 skiers per hour. To ensure good skiing conditions, there are modern snow cannons at the resort. Cross-country skiing trails are available and total 10 miles in length. Other features include a slalom stadium, night skiing, a snow park and many off-piste opportunities.

The Las Lenas resort has many entertainment options available for skiers while they take a break from the slopes. Après ski entertainment at the resort takes place in many of the 13 hotels, 10 restaurants and numerous bars, while the main attraction for many is the casino at Hotel Piscis, while others may enjoy the discos or the shopping complex.

As one of the largest resorts in Argentina, Las Lenas delivers an all round skiing experience with pistes suitable for all abilities and off-piste skiing for expert skiers. With three other ski resorts located nearby, Las Lenas has the advantage of having the biggest ski area and most modern facilities.

Skiing at Las Lenas resort starts in the middle of June and ends in the middle of September. The resort can be reached from Buenos Aires by flying to Malargue first, then by taking a bus transfer to the resort.

Transportation to Las Lenas

First opened to the public in 1983, Las Lenas has become one of the best ski destinations in Argentina. International quality hotels and services along with a large ski area make this a popular resort. The most convenient method of transport to Las Lenas is by air from Buenos Aires to Malargue, then by taking a bus transfer to the resort.

If you are travelling by car from Buenos Aires, first take National Route 7 before joining routes 188, 143, 144 and 40. For the final leg of the journey you need to take Provincial Route 222, which will take you all the way to Las Lenas.

By plane from London to Buenos Aires is a 16-hour journey. From Buenos Aires you can take a plane to Malargue (the nearest airport to the resort), then a bus transfer the rest of the way to Las Lenas, a 2-hour, 30-minute journey. During the high season it is possible to fly to Malargue direct from São Paolo, Brazil.
