Visit Newcastle with single trip travel insurance from Essential TravelNewcastle is another one of Britain’s northern cities that has undergone a dramatic regeneration recently. New attractions like the Millennium Bridge and the uber-cool Baltic Centre sit comfortably alongside old favourites like the Tyne Bridge creating an attractive, industrial city with a vibrant nightlife.Single trip to Newcastle - Wining, Dining & SleepingBefore the evenings festivities begin, make sure you book yourself into a decent hotel – Newcastle has many choices from super swanky to good-value-but-basic, so select an option that suits you.Malmaison down on the Quayside offers incredibly chic lodgings in a stunning redevelopment of an old warehouse. It’s a seriously cool hotel where all the rooms are spacious and individually designed and there’s also a fabulously stylish brasserie and bar not to mention a luxurious spa. In the heart of the city – adjacent to the Central Station in fact – the Royal Station Hotel dates back to 1858 and combines splendid Victorian architecture with comfortable modern facilities including a leisure centre. For decent reasonably priced hotels head for the leafy suburb of Jesmond – here along the Osborne Road amongst all the bars and bistros you’ll find some decent accommodation. The Comfort Inn Carlton offers good value en suite rooms in the heart of this cosmopolitan area, as does The Ferncourt Hotel. Come rain, hail or shine the Geordies know how to have a good night out and following the massive revival of the city centre and Gateshead there are now plenty of decent places to go to, so head out on the Toon for a fun-filled evening. For a culture fix check out the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art – a huge visual arts space on the south bank of the Tyne, it also has a bar and restaurants, one of which is on the roof with panoramic views over Newcastle With its imaginative menu and kitsch décor, Blackfriars is one of the best restaurants in the city. Café 21 is a great choice if you want a reasonably pricey but totally worth it dining experience. Pani’s Café is a genuine Italian bistro in the city centre with an imaginative and tasty menu owned and run by Italians. Alternatively, for tasty Italian food in more upmarket surroundings head to Sabatini on the Quayside. For great cocktails and cool DJs go to Stereo down on the Quayside. With modern décor this ultra trendy bar is worth a visit with a terrace overlooking the Millennium Bridge and Baltic Centre – a must in the summer. Sunday’s Hed Kandi night is fast becoming a must-attend event. It’s been around for years, but World Headquarters is still one of the best clubs in town with plush industrial-style décor, funky eclectic music and loyal, friendly crowd – you’re guaranteed a good night out. If you’re after a chilled out club night with an R’n’B vibe – then check out Sugar with its popular weekend nights in modern stylish surroundings. Drive two miles out of the city centre to the cosmopolitan district of Jesmond. Park up near Osborne Road and take your pick from the bars and bistros many of which – like Bar Blanc and Bar Berlise – have smart outside spaces (with essential heated lamps) giving the area an almost European feel.
