Sprawling over 620 square miles – if you’re visiting London you really do need to know where you’re going. This city does have everything to offer as long as you look in the right place.

Single trip to London - Wining, Dining & Sleeping

If you’re planning to spend the weekend in the capital splash out on a night in one of its quality hotels.

The Metropolitan in Mayfair is a fantastically trendy hotel – the décor is minimalist and even the staff wear designer labels. And one massive bonus of staying here is you get access to the legendary Met Bar (think girls from All Saints or boys from Blue…). You also get the chance to dine at Nobu – the hotel’s highly acclaimed restaurant which is notoriously difficult to book a table at if you’re not a resident.

Slap bang in the heart of the West End is the uber-cool Philippe Starck designed St Martins Lane Hotel where every room has floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of London. And even if you’re not staying here, the hotel’s Light Bar is well worth a visit if you can get past the doorman.

Once you’ve booked yourself into the hotel it’s time to get ready, get out and start having some fun.

If you’re after a leftfield night out, head for Shoreditch. The Pool and Bridge & Tunnel are vibrant and happening places to drink and dance, as are 333 and its upstairs Mother Bar.

The Paradise By Way of Kensal Green is a hidden treasure in – you’ve guessed it – Kensal Green. An eccentric bar full of interesting artifacts and frequented by a trendy local crowd, Sundays often play host to a cool party in the upstairs room.

Go to St John’s Street for a meal at one of its numerous restaurants. For a meat extravaganza (ox tongue or pig skin anyone?) opt for St John Bar & Restaurant, or nearby Cicada has delicious pan Asian cuisine and a decent bar too. Once you’ve finished feasting head to nearby Fabric to dance it all off – although early arrival is recommended to guarantee entrance.

For a swanky meal it’s hard to beat the Oxo Tower. The wine list is extensive and the view impressive to say the least… and the food’s not bad either! A bit further east and still with a fabulous river view is Conran’s flagship restaurant Le Pont de la Tour, a quality place with a lively atmosphere.

Sarastro on Drury Lane is a fun place to eat. Although the Turkish food is not that inspired, it’s more than compensated for by the fabulously flamboyant surroundings. It’s like stepping into another world – try and reserve an upstairs booth for the full effect.

St Matthew’s Church in Brixton is the unlikely venue for two clubs and a restaurant. The Bug (bar/club and restaurant) and Mass (club) can both be found here and attract a hip, young crowd – queuing is often necessary.

If you’re a fan of gastro pubs you’re in the right city – they’re everywhere and mostly of a high standard. Recommended ones include The Prince Bonaparte in Westbourne Park, The Eagle in Farringdon and Lord Palmerston in Tufnell Park.
