Sprawling over 620 square miles – if you’re visiting London you really do need to know where you’re going. This city does have everything to offer as long as you look in the right place.

Single trip to London - The Great Outdoors

For such a buzzing city London has a surprisingly large expanse of green, it also has loads of decent outside spaces to enjoy long summer days and nights.

On a lazy, hazy afternoon one of the best places to find yourself is on Primrose Hill. This gorgeous park is just a stone’s throw north of the more hectic Regent’s Park and is the perfect spot for picnicking and sunbathing, not to mention celeb spotting – Meg Matthews, Sara Cox and even Jude Law are all fans.

Head down to the River Thames and stroll along the South Bank until you get to Gabriel’s Wharf. This is a charming area to explore with outside bistros, cute gift shops and unusual boutiques.

London’s other great waterway – the Grand Union Canal – is also worth checking out. Walk along the canal from Angel until you get to the Commissary Bar & Restaurant and there you can make use of their pedloes for some fun in the sun. When you’ve had enough pedlowing indulge in some refreshments back at the Commissary.

Lucky enough to be in town for the August bank holiday? Then the Notting Hill Carnival is a must-participate event. Running over the whole weekend – the main parade is on Monday 25th. Simply wander around and you’ll come across a different sound system at every corner and you’re guaranteed to be dancing till sundown. Then you’re perfectly positioned to experience the local nightlife.

Single trip to London - Shopping Heaven

The capital is renowned for being a shopper’s paradise with an abundance of department stores and high street chains. But take time to venture slightly off the beaten track and you certainly won’t be disappointed.

After you’ve checked out the vintage clothing and antique stalls of Portobello Road, head slightly east along Westbourne Grove to the junction with Ledbury Road. Along this stretch you’ll find some fab boutiques including Seventy Seven and Paul & Joe.

If you fancy getting something different for your home, visit Exmouth Market. Tucked away on this little Clerkenwell street are some very individual shops – visit Lowe Interiors for an eclectic range in contemporary design. Just along from here Inflate Shop has everything inflatable and plastic your home could ever need! It’s also worth popping into the Applied Arts Agency.

The streets around Carnaby Street have recently undergone something of a revival, with cool new fashion outlets such as Savage London and Dispensary regularly popping up.

Head east to Columbia Road flower market on a Sunday morning for an assault of colours and scents that is second to none. While you’re there check out the sparklers at Given the jewellers, then head on to Cheshire Street off of nearby Brick Lane for funky gift shops and other stuff.
