Visit Bristol with single trip travel insurance from Essential TravelA striking – if somewhat hilly – city with a vibrant youth culture… Bristol is definitely a place worth exploring.Single trip to Bristol - Wining, Dining & SleepingIf you’re going to be in town over night then treat yourself to a room at one of its superior hotels. For a truly classy place to lay your head opt for the Hotel Du Vin & Bistro. In the centre of town this restored sugar house has stylish loft-style bedrooms complete with fabulous bathrooms, not to mention one of the best restaurants in the city. Although it’s not the swankiest hotel in town, the Avon Gorge Hotel is worth staying at for the view alone – but do make sure you get a room overlooking the Gorge. The outside terrace (which non-residents can go to for lunch and drinks) is a total suntrap, dominated by the nearby and very impressive Clifton Suspension Bridge. Once you’re parked up for the night the world, or at least Bristol is your oyster. And the nightlife certainly has a lot to offer. One place to definitely try and go is Nocturne. Owned by members of Massive Attack, it is a massively (no pun intended) cool place to hang out – and although it is a members only club, there does seem to be exceptions to this policy. And you could always befriend a member as a last resort… For restaurants and bars Whiteladies Road in Clifton is an ideal destination. Recommended eateries include Deason’s with its tasteful décor and really tempting menu influenced by worldwide cuisine. The nearby Bar Humbug also does good food and has a cool, chilled out atmosphere as well as an outside drinking area. It has an extensive wine list and does pretty good cocktails including Cosmopolitans to die for! Drive a couple of miles out of the centre to nearby Totterdown and check out Glasnost. It’s very difficult to get a table at this unique eatery, but if you do manage it you’ll not be disappointed by the eclectic style of cooking. A little further south of Totterdown is the suburb of Bedminster, and this is being hailed as the new place to go in Bristol. If you’re in this part of town a visit to Tobacco Factory is a must. This exciting venture includes a trendy industrial-style bar and restaurant as well as a performance venue. For a top-notch dining experience head for Glass Boat. The novelty of being on a boat is not the main reason for going here – the British-with-Mediterranean-influence menu is. Byzantium opposite the St Mary Redcliffe Church also caters for the more refined diner with expensive but superb food and an exotic bar with belly dancers and magicians downstairs. If you want to go clubbing, the dance club Lakota attracts big name DJs, although the colourful crowd can sometimes be a bit rough and ready. For something a little more intimate try the small but funky Dojo Lounge. If you fancy dancing on a boat head for the Thekla, but check what club night they’ve got on first.
