Rowing

Rowing is fun to do with friends when you're on a trip or on a vacation. Rowing can be done leisurely to enjoy the surrounding view or it can be done competitively - where you and other rowers race against one another. Although rowing is a good form of exercise, there are risks involved in this type of sport. It is best to bring your travel insurance with you when engaging in this activity.

Rowing is considered a Grade 1 risk sport because it is relatively safe (but not completely). Rowing involves propelling a boat through the water using oars and human power. Rowing can be done singly or with a group, team, or crew, requiring synergy for speed and direction. In rowing, you sit in the boat facing backwards to the stern, with the oars are attached to rowlocks that allows you to propel the boat forward to the bow. Rowing requires muscular strength, making it a good upper body exercise. Rowing can be done on a lake, river, sea, or any large body of water.

The nature of rowing requires strenuous work, and thus it can be strenuous for the body, leading to some injuries. Common injuries sustained while rowing are: facet joint pain, knee pain, rib stress fracture, wrist tendinitis, epiphyseal distraction, shoulder/neck syndrome, blisters, and thoracic spine injury. Many of these injuries can be avoided with proper warm-up exercises and correct rowing form and posture. If you sustain them however, you may require hospitalisation, and in worst cases, surgery. If you have travel insurance, you need not worry about medical bills.
