Roller Skating

Roller skating is a recreational activity that you can enjoy anywhere, especially while on vacation. You can do it alone or with friends - in a skate park, a skating ink, or a not-so-busy street (that allows roller skating). Roller skaters, especially beginners, are prone to accidents. Make sure you have your travel insurance with you.

There are a lot of things you can do with a pair of skates - cruise around, do some tricks, race with a friend, or just go around in circles. When you are a beginner, however, it's easy to fall off because your balance and coordination are not yet honed. You may incur injuries, which in worst cases require hospitalization and even therapy. This is why travel insurance is handy.

Experience, skill, skate type and quality, surface texture, and protective equipment are all factors that influence roller skating injuries. Most injuries related to roller skating are fractures and soft tissue injuries. Most accidents usually involve inexperienced skaters; but injuries sustained by experienced skaters are usually more severe and require surgery. A bigger percentage of injuries involve the wrist, elbow, and the ankle. Some 90% of those injured wore no protection.

Roller skating is considered a Grade 1 risk sport. It is recommended that you acquire travel insurance when you plan on going roller skating on your trip.
