Rambling (under 2,000 metres altitude)

Rambling, or walking as a hobby, is a popular recreational activity in Britain-it is the best way to explore a new place, whether a bustling city or the countryside. Rambling allows you to appreciate the surroundings in your own pace and time and it gives you a lot of exercise. Rambling is not without risks however. Unfamiliar footpaths and trails can cause you to incur minor injuries. When rambling in a new place, out-of-town or out of the country, always bring your travel insurance with you.

Rambling can be enjoyed alone, with a friend, or with a group of people. In some places such as England, Wales, and Scotland, there are Ramblers' groups that you can check out and join. Rambling can take you to long-distance footpaths (some ancient) and allows you to meet new, different people.

Although rambling is probably one of the safest sports or activities, there are still some risks involved in it. The common injuries you can obtain from rambling include plantar fasciitis, blisters, shin splits, chafing, achilles tendinitis, bunion, lumbar strain, neuroma, and bursitis. Usually, the right pair of shoes can prevent most of these injuries from happening. Still, if strains and pains suddenly render you incapable of walking, you may need to be fetched by an ambulance from a remote area, taken to the hospital, and confined. In some cases, you may need to undergo surgery, which can be very expensive if you do not have travel insurance.

Rambling, under 2,000 metres altitude, is considered a Grade 1 risk sport, with a low chance for injury. It is advised that when you engage in this activity, you have travel insurance with you.
