Cheap family travel insurance customers ''will get around charges''.
Holiday makers ''will get around baggage fees''
09 September 2009Holiday customers looking to save some cash by flying with budget airlines will find ways to get around the extra charges for baggage, it has been claimed.
The Air Transport Users Council (ATUC) suggested there could be a rise in cases of passengers taking their luggage onto the aircraft to avoid the levy.
Ryanair recently announced an increase to its baggage charges, which could mean a fee of up to £100 if travel insurance customers were to check in cases weighing 30kg in total.
Commenting, ATUC industry affairs manager James Fremantle explained people often get around the added cost by taking advantage of the "quite generous" allowance for cabin luggage.
"[Airlines] have to understand that some people can''t take that bag on board and will have to check it in," he stated, adding there are also other airlines where passengers do not have to pay to check bags in.
Meanwhile, customers determined to get the cheapest flight may be interested to hear Ryanair''s average fares have fallen 20 per cent this year.
